An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND ORDINANCE 559 MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO DRIVE A MOTOR VEHICLE UPON A PUBLIC STREET WHILE INTOXICATED OR UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF INTOXICATING LIQUORS OR STIMULATING OR STUPEFYING DRUGS; BY PROHIBITING DRIVING A MOTOR VEHICLE WITHOUT BEING PROPERLY LICENSED; PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES UPON CONVICTION; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Fountain and Whipple for recommendation. An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION IV OF ORDINANCE NO. 378; REFERRED TO AS SECTION 10, CHAPTER 24, OF THE LAS VEGAS CITY CODE, 1949, BY AMENDING THE LAND USE PLAN MAP ADOPTED BY THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, AND CHANGING THE ZONE DESIGNATION OF CERTAIN AREAS ON THE SAID MAP, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Fountain and Sharp for recommendation. An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE REDUCTION OF THE BUILDING SITE AREA REQUIREMENTS ON LOTS WITHIN THE CITY ZONED R-2, R-3, AND R-4 BEFORE AUGUST 1, 1955; PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PERMITS; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO; AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. Commissioner Bunker moved that James L. Young be reappointed as a member of the Traffic and Parking Commission for a term of four years, and that a letter of appreciation for his fine services be sent to Mr. Young by the City Clerk. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy presented the request of Mrs. Reba McKinster, City Librarian, to attend the American Library Association convention in Philadelphia from July 1 to July 9, 1955 with $330.00 expenses allowed. Commissioner Whipple moved the request of Mrs. McKinster to attend this convention in Philadelphia from July 1 to July 9, 1955 with $330.00 expenses, be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. At this time the City Manager presented a request for permission to install sidewalks along the North 5th Street side of Squires Park at an approximate cost of $2400.00. Mr. Kennedy further requested that the width of these sidewalks be reduced from 8½ feet to 5 feet in this area. Commissioner Sharp moved the installation of sidewalks along the North 5th Street side of Squires Park and reduction from 8½ feet to 5 feet be approved. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy requested that a meeting be held to discuss the policy of the Commission on business, gambling and liquor licenses with a possible revision of the ordinances governing these licenses. He also asked that automotive and motor equipment of the City be discussed at this meeting. It was decided that a definite time would be set at the next regular meeting of the Board. Mr. Kennedy recommended that since the City Clerk no longer collected the fees for the City that this bond be reduced from $25,000.00 to $10,000.00 and the bond for the Super­visor of License and Revenue set at $25,000.00. Commissioner moved this recommendation be accepted and the bond of the City Clerk reduced from $25,000.00 to $10,000.00 and the bond of the Supervisor of License and Revenue set at $25,000.00. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Manager Kennedy stated that some of the curbs and gutters in Assessment District No. 100-23 had been damaged by the recent floods and that funds were available for repair if this is legally possible. This matter was referred to the City Attorney for recommendation. At this time the City Manager requested approval for the purchase of a street flushing truck to be used jointly by the Fire and Public Works Departments. He stated that the downtown club owners were willing to donate $4,000.00 toward the purchase of this equip­ment. Fire Chief Gates said that this would be a tank truck complete with a flusher, and could be used as an extra piece of fire equipment. 6-29-55
