CANNON_______ /s/ REED WHIPPLE_______________ /s/ WENDELL BUNKER_________ Las Vegas, Nevada October 28, 1954 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, held this 28th day of October, 1954, was called to order at the hour of 7:55 P.M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Rex A. Jarrett Commissioner Harris P. Sharp Commissioner Reed Whipple City Manager George Rounthwaite Asst. City Manager Robert W. Notti City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Engineer George E. Wade City Clerk Shirley B llinger Absent: Commissioner Wendell Bunker Mayor Baker explained that the reason they were late in calling the meeting to order was that the Chief of Police was giving the Board a report on the Juvenile situation. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved the City Attorney prepare an appropriate resolution giving the Chief of Police authority to clear up this situation and requesting the cooperation of parents and organizations. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none; absent - Commissioner Bunker. Mr. George Harris, Principal of the High School, was present and stated that if the City needed any help from the schools to call on them. The contractor for the Fremont Hotel on the corner of 2nd and Fremont was present at this time to request a permit to build a two story structure for a construction office in front of the proposed site for the hotel. The lower portion will be a walkway for pedestrians. At this time Commissioner Bunker arrived at the meeting. Commissioner Sharp moved this request for a building permit for a con­struction office be approved, in accordance with the plans presented. Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Jarrett, Sharp, Whipple, Bunker and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. City Engineer George Wade reported that there is a change required in the Recreation Center due to the fact that there was an error made in the plans for the hand ball court. He stated that the approximate cost for this change would be $2,000.00. Thereafter it was requested that Richard Bledsoe, architect for this project, be requested to be present at the next regular meeting to discuss this problem. City Attorney Howard W. Cannon stated that he did not have the final inform­ation to report on the status of Assessment District No. 100-25. He reported that he had met with the State Highway Department and they are revising their schedule so that the City's contract on the improvement of Fifth Street will be separate. City Engineer George Wade gave a report on the status of the improvements in Paradise Village Tracts Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 4. He stated that all the tracts were almost complete with the exception of small items that should be taken care of. The City Attorney gave a report on the sewer contract with North Las Vegas. It was determined that this contract should be studied and at a future date that North Las Vegas should be called in to renegotiate the contract. Discussion was held on the sewer contract with the 'Strip Hotels," and it was reported that this contract expired on the 30th of June, 1954. The City Attorney was directed to write a letter to these hotels advising them of this fact.
