HEARING ON PETITION TO This being the time set for the hearing on the Petition to Vacate a Nuisance, said VACATE A NUISANCE — petition filed with the City Clerk on May 27, 1948, conducted by Bush Brothers Re: Bush Bros. Trucklines Trucklines located at 334 North 6th Street, Las Vegas, Nevada, His Honor Mayor Cragin read the aforementioned petition. Thereafter William J. Hatton, esq., counsel for the petitioners, presented the following witnesses who testified that the operation of business by said Bush Brothers Trucklines constituted a nuisance: Mrs. John Sigurdson 402 North 6th Mr. Bob Holbrook Hub Court, Apt. #8 Mr. John Sigurdson 402 North 6th June Pursell 402 North 6th - Apt. #20 Mr. John S. Hawkins 408 North 6th Mr. Ed E. Strupat 4430 North 6th Mr. William Rich 405 North 6th Mr. George Bush, representing Bush Brothers Trucklines, questioned the foregoing witnesses. After considerable discussion His Honor Mayor Cragin stated that the testimony given at this time would be taken under consideration by the Board of Commissioners and when a decision is reached both parties concerned with the above- mentioned petition would be advised. PROPOSED SOLICITATION At this time M. B. Graves, esq., representing the Community Chest of the City of ORDINANCE Las Vegas, appeared before the Board and presented a draft of a proposed ordinance to regulate and prohibit solicitors in the City of Las Vegas. Mr. Graves requested the Board to consider such an ordinance in order to prevent unauthorized solicitation of funds. Thereafter Mr. Gregory appeared on behalf of the Catholic and Protestant Churches to ask the Board to exclude religious solicitation of funds from the drafted proposed ordinance presented by Mr. Graves. His Honor Mayor Cragin referred the said proposed ordinance to City Attorney C. Norman Cornwall for study and recommendation. PETITION — At this time a petition was filed with the Board of Commissioners relative to the Change of Name of Street changing of the street designated as Pittman Place to "South Eighth Place." "Pittman Place" - Vega Verde Addition Commissioner Clark moved that the aforementioned petition be referred to the Planning Commission for recommendation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Baskin and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Baskin, Clark, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Moore. WESTERN AIRLINES Commissioner Clark moved that the offer of settlement in the amount of $l45,000.00 LEASE for the cancellation of the lease between Western Airlines, Inc. and the City of Las Vegas, as contained in the letter of Western Airlines, Inc. dated August 31, 1948 be refused. Further that Western Airlines, Inc. be notified that the City is willing to negotiate for the relinquishment of this lease in the amount of $20,000.00. Motion seconded by Commissioner Baskin and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Baskin, Clark, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Moore. MEETING — Whse Oil Co. At this time the City Manager was instructed to call a meeting of the local repre- Representatives sentatives of wholesale oil companies relative to the threatened strike. CURFEW ORDINANCE NO. 359 An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS REGULATING THE AP- 2nd Reading PEARANCE OF MINORS ON THE PUBLIC STREETS, AVENUES, ALLEYS AND OTHER PUBLIC PLACES WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION OF ANY OF THE PROVISIONS HEREOF; REPEALING ORDINANCES NO. 9 AND 21, AND ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATING THERETO, was read in full to the Board for a second time. Thereafter Commissioner Whipple moved that the foregoing Ordinance No. 359 be approved on its second reading. PROPOSED ORDINANCE The committee composed of Commissioner Clark and Moore on the proposed ordinance to Amendment to Section 1 amend Section 1 of Ordinance No. 349 asked for additional time to study said or- of Ordinance No. 349 dinance before reporting. SEWER RENTAL ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE IMPOSITION AND COLLECTION OF No. 364 - 2nd Reading RATES, FEES AND CHARGES FOR THE USE OF THE SERVICES AND FACILITIES OF THE SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; AUTHORIZING AND EMPOWERING THE CITY TO REQUIRE CONNECTION WITH SANITARY SEWERS SERVED OR WHICH MAY BE SERVED BY SAID DISPOSAL SYSTEM; PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE FAILURE AND REFUSAL TO MAKE SUCH
