Thomas Willson said T uesday the nine-part g r i e v a n c e report has spurred a probe by the State P erson nel Division to determine whether there’s any substance to the complaints. Wilson said Layton formed the grievance group about 10 days ago after one staffer advised him some of the 20 museum employes were upset. Wilson said the report cam e up for discussion at a b o a r d o f - d i r c C t o r s l m e e t i h g last Thursday and directors decided the personnel division should look into the rift. The grievances cite pay a d ju stm en t ineq u ities, erasing of some museum exhibits for office space use, and lack of communication between Layton, his staff, and others, The complaints also cite employe stress caused by alleged hurried working c o n d itio n s , d e la y s in r e s p o n d i n g to s t a f f recommendations and a claim that Layton is “ incompetent” and should not be director, Wilson said he didn’t know how many of the estimated eight employes who filed complaints concurred in all grievances. He added names of .the complaining workers were not divulged. Wilson said! the rift is sim ilar to a 1970 dispute involving a delegation of m useum employes who complained about policies pay and other issues.
