HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS GROUP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA Las Vegas, NV Minutes of the Executive Committee (Officers and Board of Directors) of the Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada (HSGSN) Meeting, at Temple Beth Sholom, September 18, 2005 Present: Henry Schuster, Anita Schuster, Bruno Borenstein, Jean Lesser, Ludwig Bauer, David Berkovits, Sam Chinkes, Harold Blitzer, Raymonde Fiol, Gina Klonoff, Henry Kronberg, Alexander Kuechel, Benjamin Lesser, Perry Oehlbaum. 1. The Meeting was called to order by President Schuster at 12:30 P.M. 2. The Minutes of the Board Meeting of HSGSN of February 5, 2005 were read by the Secretary in abbreviated form and were approved. 3. Treasurer Jean Lesser reported that the current Account for HSGSN is $3047. 4. President Schuster reported that HSGSNV contributed $100 to the Jewish Federation to support the ongoing Katrina recovery efforts. No Board action was necessary since the President had previously been empowered to spend up to $100 for needy causes. 5 A motion was passed (unanimously) that HSGSN support Jewish Family Service Agency by an additional $1,000 at present (monies to be spent specifically on Holocaust Survivors in need). Further commitments towards this cause will be discussed at later Meetings and also as the treasury builds up. 6. Mitchell Gilbert (representing the Federation) reported that the video "The Phoenix Effect", produced by CHILDREN of HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS living in Vineland NJ is available. The purchase of this video has been assured. Furthermore, Ben Lesser kindly offered to fly 2 of the producers to Las Vegas at the time when HSGSN will have a showing of this video. The place and time of the showing is to be determined. The board fully supported this fund-raising venture. 7. President Schuster reported that Holocaust Survivor Foundation is upset by Judge Korman's decision to award the majority of a recent award to rebuild Russian Jewry. 8. After expressing disappointment with the 2005 Yom Hashoah Services, at the June 5, 2005 Meeting of the Executive Committee of HSGSN, the Board encouraged Presidents Schuster to meet with the Board of Rabbis of Las Vegas to appraise them of some of their suggestions for future Yom Hashoah Remembrance Services. Presidents Schusters have not been able to meet with the Board of Rabbis so far. As a matter of fact, the date and place for the all-Community 2006 Yom Hashoah Services have not been announced. While Presidents Schuster outlined some facets of what the future Services might want to incorporate, the Board took no further action at this Meeting on this matter. The Board hopes that Presidents Schuster can meet with the Board of Rabbis, and in particular, the Rabbi in charge for the 2006 Commemoration, to explore some of the ideas they hope to incorporate into the program for 2006, and beyond. In particular, Presidents Schuster hope to be involved in choosing suitable main speakers for such Yom Hashoah Remembrance Services. 9. The Board Meeting was preceded by Breakfast Meeting of the Holocaust Survivors Group and the Second Generation at Temple Beth Sholom, 11 A.M.-12:30 PM. 10. The Meeting of the Executive Committee adjourned at 1:30 P.M. Respectfully submitted by Ludwig Bauer, Secretary, September 27, 2005
