The vitalizatkm of the central core is imperative to 'die future health and sustainabxlity of Southern Nevada, as a whole. It is my opinion that this can only be done by our combined efforts. The City's federal priorities are: Downtown Revitaliagrtian; The City seeks $1-5 million from the Economic Development Initiative (EDI) in the FY 2002 Department of Veterans Affairs, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies appropriations bilL This would help fund several projects including grants to downtown businesses for facade improvements as well as street, pedestrian and landscaping improvements. The funds would also assist in planning the relocation of the Downtown Transportation Center as well as the Downtown Area Command Center of the Metropolitan Police Substation. Monorail Station Design: The City seeks $500,000 from the Transportation Community Systems Preservation (TCSF) account in the Department of Transportation. The funds would be used for the construcdon design for monorail stations between Sahara and Fremont Streets. This request is supported by the RTC1 Sewer and Storm Drain Improvements: The CSty requests $2 million from the State Tribal Assistance Grant (STAG) account at EPA in the FY 2002 VA/HUD/IA appropriations bilL This funding would assist in the rdiabilitation and upgrading and relocation of sewers and storm drains in the oldest part of the City. East Las Vegas Business Incubator: The City seeks $500,000 to provide jobs for low and moderate income persons as well as provide technical and business development assistance to micro-business in East Las Vegas. The City has suggested either the Department of Labor's Workforce Pilot account or the Economic Development Initiative account in the VA/HUD/IA appropriations bilL PAGE 3/3 AH four of these projects axe extremely important to the City audi strongly urge your consideration in including them in to FY 2002 appropriations bills before the end of the federal fiscal year.
