SHOSHANIM GROUP - HAD ASS AH General Meeting - September 11, 1995 Location - The Home of Sheila Simon The meeting was called to order by President Sherry DeArmas at 7:55 PM. The collection of stamps, sample toiletries for Shadetree Shelter and labels for St. Jude's Ranch were called for. Sherry welcomed everyone and thanked Sheila for the use of her home. Greetings for the New Year were conveyed. A short speech regarding Hadassah and our commitments for the 21st century was given. The room was then introduced to Lori Lipman-Brown's mother-in-law, Marie Brown, our special guest this evening.. The remainder of those present introduced themselves, identifying their positions on the board or as part of the general membership. The minutes for the meeting of June 12,1995 were read by Harriet Smylie and approved as written. The Treasurer's Report was given by Marcia Marx. The account balance is $62.29 to date with a $60.00 check from Chapter for new members and a $5.00 donation in cash yet to be deposited. The donation was given for the purchase of stamps. It was pointed out at this time that a simple donation of the actual stamps is preferred to cash. A letter from the President of Chapter, Jo Ann Geller, to Shoshanim was read regarding our group's quota for the coming year. We need to raise $6,443.00 with a goal of $935.00. Although this appears to be a large sum, we were reminded of the $4,130.57 netted as a result of our efforts hosting the Youth Aliyah Luncheon last year. We will be hosting the luncheon again this year on February 25th, 1996. Donations through the purchase of tributes and the ads for the calendar also go towards the quota. A short discussion regarding the forming of a committee for the Youth Aliyah Luncheon followed. Coin banks were mentioned and distributed. Volunteers for the Thrift Shop Yard Sale were called for without knowing the specific date of the event. It will be one Sunday only. The Chapter will be having a Luncheon open to the public at the Las Vegas Country Club next week. The speaker will be Charlotte Franklin, one of the four nurses sent to Bosnia by Hadassah to assess the medical needs of the people of Sarejevo. Reservations will be needed and the cost is $15.00. Our speaker for the evening, Lori Lipman-Brown, was introduced. She is our Parliamentarian and the chairman for the nominating committee for this coming year. Lori recently returned from her trip to Israel as our representative to the National Convention of Hadassah. She conveyed through the display of her personal photographs, posters, and other memorabilia, the wonderful experience of the visiting Israel and being a part of Hadassah. Her enthusiasm was felt by all. Lori gave each of us a bookmark from Israel to remember the evening. The meeting was then turned back to Sherry. The meetings for October, November, and December were then discussed. The October meeting will have to be moved to the Monday of the 9th due to the High Holidays. The suggestion was made that we have a dinner meeting / social evening every other meeting, and was well received. The DiMartino's New York Pasta Company was suggested and approved for the next meeting with Sheila Simon making the arrangements. The November 6th meeting will be at the home of Marcia Marx. The December meeting was planned as a social to celebrate Chanukah to be held at the home of Harriet Smylie on Sunday, December 3,1995. The Membership Luncheon sponsored by Chapter will be held on Sunday, October 15, 1995. No good and welfare was offered. The raffle for the four mystery bags was drawn. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Harriet Smylie
