ALFRED SHEINWOLD July 20, 1967 Dear Dear Club Director: Y@u can do your regular players a big favor by reminding them of the annual Rubber Bridge Tournament,to be held at the Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, during the last weekend of October. Duplicate players can test their skill in club games and then in ACBL tournaments, but rubber bridge players may wonder how good they really are. They can find out by playing in our rubber bridge tournament. There are no stakes ?╟÷ just the entry fee, as in any tournament. Everybody plays all the way through the first two days, and those who don't qualify for the knockout matches may play on the third day in the Consolation Contest. Everything except the last two matches takes place during the Weekdnd ?╟÷ Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will be a joyful weekend for the winners, and lots of fun even for those who finish in the cellar. Players come from all stifces of the Union, from Canada, Mexico, and some from Europe. Some are well known bridge writers, and others are known only as good players or "big holders" in their own circles. To make sure of keeping the game on a friendly, sporting level we reserve thejright to refuse any entry.WiKK&Hif For example, we do not accept anybody who has worked in any gambling casino. Last year Sportsk Illustrated sent Ray Cave and Jack Olsen to play in the tournament, and Olsen wrote one of the funniest articles ever printed. Olsen wrote that he couldn't shuffle and that Cave had never learned to keep score, but they reached the knockouts and covered themselves with glory (although they didn't qutie finish in the money). Please put our brochure on your bulletin board and mention the tournament to rubber bridge players. Everybody who comes to the tournament will have a splendid triune, with good fridge and the great entertainment for which Las Vegas is so famous. Anybody who has a question may drop me a line ?╟÷ or mjy write to the tournament host, Mr. Sandy Waterman, of the Sands Hotel. 544 Loring Avenue Los Angeles, California 90024 GRanite 4-0679
