GARROWAY: (SOTTO VOCE) ... Baltimore, Maryland .,?╜ chil- dren dance to their own kind of music ... but no sound of it sings to them. You are there "live" bub the sound in their ears is dead. Speak to them and your voice is lip lost in a void of silence. Laugh with them, cry with them, but your sounds will stop short of their faces. Their faces are a camera without a sound track, a silent picture. Their ears do not pick up your music, your voices, your laughter, the joy of sound you take for granted. Yet, they dance to the rhythm of music. You are in a classroom of the William S. Baer School in Baltimore. Mrs. Rose Owens, their teacher, is showing the parents how their chil- dren speak.
