RICHARD KOLLMAR July 5, 1955. Dear Al: Many, many thanks for your courtesies during our stay at The Sands. I?╟╓ve been bending Dorothy?╟╓s ear on our radio program for the last four days about the wanders of Las Vegas in general, and the virtues of The Sands Hotel in particular. Jack can be very proud of his hostelry. As I promised, I have the WOR people hard at work, exploring the costs of doing our show live from The Sands from August 30th to September 2nd, Dorothy is most excited aoouu this possibility, and WE feels that it could be a novel and profitable stunt. Sooner or later, one all-important question would come up in connection with the expenditure re- quired by The Sands for the telephone lines ?╟÷ "Is the cost commensurate with the exploitation derived therefrom?" Without going into any elaborate explan- ation, let me say that "Breakfast With Dorothy and Dick", for some strange reason, has become the highest rated show in the East between 8:15 and 9:00 a.m. While technically it?╟╓s a local show, as distinguished from a network operation, the WOR signal covers the best part of 14 states and, of course, blankets the ?√ß all-important Greater New York area. The scheme, roughly, would be as follows: After the opening of the National Company of "Plain And Fancy" in Los Angeles on August 29th, we would take a plane at, say, 1:00 a.m. that same night for Las Vegas. Our first special remote from The Sands would be on the air at 15:15 your time, and would cover the story of the Open- ing and Dorothy?╟╓s first impressions of Las Vegas. We would continue these broadcasts through Friday mornini September 2nd, and leave for New York the following da If this idea looks feasible to The Sands?╟╓ pro- prietors, we would appreciate your complimentary accom- modations for Bob and Jean Bach, who would be acting in a secretarial and production capacity for the programs. We would, of course, provide their transportation to and from Las Vegas. cont?╟╓d
