    Page 2 are guided by Opportunity Center's teacher, Mrs. Allsebrook} and Mrs. Austin ?√ßwho assists and is housemother of the Center. Some of these children are so severely retarded that they are being instructed to feed themselves and take care of their body functions. They are being made aware of their outside surroundings?╟÷colors, numbers; and they are being introduced to new smells, sights, sounds. They learn here > to associate with other people and their inter-personal relationships are developed^.,. There are retarded young adults who attend the Center in the afternoon; these young people are 18 or over and have already completed the special education courses offered them by the school district. They have workshop activities and are presently engaged in making Christinas cards, flruplgggr*' lag*u?╜adu aSTTOWpspare, 3 foot high outdoor decorative Christmas candles, placemats, nylon scrubbers, covered match books, decorating pine cones, all of which will be sold.. Most of the proceeds feo into the "Building Fund" for the\ larger Center the association hopes some day to build, but\ the children do get 35$ an hour "salary", and they are very pleased and proud to receive their weekly "pay check.f ' *
