    CITY OP HOPE Public Relations Dept. 626-4611 (Hank Brown) TED LINDSAY (Suggested Column Material) The Sportsmen's World Award Presentations -- the "Oscars" of athletics -- this year will include Robert Blake Theodore 'Ted' Lindsay, ice hockey player extraordinary, when sports fans gather at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas June 28, to do honor to the greatest competitors of the past. In a sport best known for its crushing bodily contact and frequent injuries, Lindsay amassed the enviable career record of having played in more than 1200 games, including 133 playoff rounds. He began his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings in 1944, and was the league's outstanding left wing performer with the Detroit club through 1957* when he moved to the Chicago Black Hawks for three seasons. Lindsay wound ap his playing career in 1965, having returned to the Red Wings. In his career on the ice, Lindsay scored 379 goals and was credited with 472 assists during regular season play, adding 47 goals and 49 assists in playoff games. He played on three Stanley Cup winners with Detroit, and personally was named to eight NHL All-Star teams including five consecutive years, 1949-1953. Lindsay was awarded the Art Ross Trophy as the outstanding NHL performer for the 1949-50 season. # # #
