Inter - Department Correspondence August To: Mr. Richard Danner Date From: A1 Freeman Subject: City of Hope - Sportsmen' s World Awards Bill Dear Mr. Danner, The material in the attached folder deals with the City of Hope Sportsmen's World Awards Dinner held at the Sands on June 26th. The following points are pertinent: 1. This is the fourth year we have had this event at the Sands as a casino promotion. 2. I am enclosing a copy of our letter of agreement for both 1970 and 1971. 3. For 1971, Mr. Benedict and Mr. Cohen agreed that the Sands should only absorb costs up to $35,000 and that everything after that should be borne by the City of Hope. H. We now have a bill outstanding for $17,678.54 for the City of Hope, as shown in the attached statement. 5. Many of the guests were here for three days and nights and I would recommend checking with the Casino to see the actual vajue of this promotion. 6. The first three years we had national television, with live television shows in Los Angeles and syndicated shows in about 30 cities. In 1971, we had no television and thus the restriction on the cost. 7. In 1970, it cost $52,000 and the City of Hope paid about $9,000. I trust that this might answer any questions you might have on this situation and I recommend that we take a good hard look at the casino results before we consider holding this event again at the Sands.
