Abstract
The Women's Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) Oral History Records (1995-2015) are comprised of Dr. Joanne Goodwin's research, communication, and publicity relating to the Las Vegas Women Oral History Project. The records include correspondence, photographs of interview participants, news clippings, and working drafts of transcripts. The records also contain oral history interview documentation for projects in which WRIN and Joanne Goodwin provided assistance and consultation.

Collection is open for research. Some contents in this collection are closed for seventy-five years from the latest date found on an individual record to protect privacy and confidentiality. Access is restricted under provisions of state or federal law and are closed to all except the department that created them, UNLV General Counsel, the director of the originating program or division, or their designees until 2090. Restrictions are noted at the file level of this inventory and will be open for research use January 1, 2090.

Biographical / Historical Note
In May 1998, Dr. Joanne Goodwin, Caryll Dziedziak, Kay Long, and Gerry Evans decided to create a statewide institute to ensure the long-term viability of existing projects focused on women and gender, while building a network of campus and community support for research on women and gender issues. In May 1999, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Board of Regents recognized the Women’s Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) as a statewide research institute. One of the institute’s first projects was to continue the work of Dr. Goodwin’s Las Vegas Women Oral History Project, which had begun conducting interviews around 1994. The project's mission was to collect personal histories of women in Las Vegas, Nevada who informed the narrative of the city's history, but who were also unlikely to leave behind more formal documentation such as published books or manuscript collections. The project began as a graduate student collaboration, and later became a collaboration between the UNLV History Department and the Women's Research Institute of Nevada. Dr. Joanne Goodwin, WRIN's Director Emeritus, directed all work on the project.

Acquisition Note
Copies of select audio cassettes and print transcripts were periodically transferred to Special Collections and Archives on an ongoing basis beginning in the late 1990s. The remaining materials were transferred to the University Archives in 2017 by Joanne Goodwin on behalf of the Women's Research Institute of Nevada; accession number 2017-017.
Processing Note
Audio cassettes were digitized by an external vendor on an ongoing basis from 2014 to 2018. Print and bound transcripts were cataloged on an ongoing basis starting in the late 1990s and ending in 2019. In 2017, Tammi Kim minimally processed born-digital interview materials transferred to UNLV Special Collections and Archives on a hard drive. Also in 2017, Tammi Kim and Maggie Bukowski conducted some preliminary processing of the physical files. In 2018 and 2019, Karla Irwin completed processing the born-digital and physical files and subsequently created the collection description. Born-digital processing included transfer of digital interview files from optical discs, zip disks, and floppy disks. Access copies were created for all audio and finalized transcript files.
Prior to the 2017 acquisition, oral history interviews received by Special Collections and Archives from the Women's Research Institute of Nevada were described as item level collection records in a local database, and transcripts were individually cataloged. Staff made the decision to continue this unique strategy after the 2017 acquisition, and therefore the audio and transcript digital files of interviews, have been described in individual records and assigned unique oral history (OH) collection numbers. Bound transcripts were removed and individually cataloged.
