Art Linkletter will emcee the program, with a team of show business stars presenting the awards. Lindsay, now a Detroit man- ufacturing executive, will re- ceive a Victor, a gold-plated statuette depicting an athlete in triumphal salute. THE OTHER former ath- letes who will be there to re- ceive Victors are: *\ Rocky MarciancgjlnraHft* feated heavyweight b o x i n g champion who retired in 1956. Peter DePaolo, first man to win the ?╟úIndianapolis 500?╟Ñ at an average speed of more than 100 mph, ih 1925. Dr. Sammy Lee, Olympic diving champion at both Lon- don and Helsinki and a popu- lar American ambassador Of goodwill. Sammy Baugh, the famed quarterback who starred with T e x a s Christian University and the Washington Redskins. Bob Feller, the Cleveland Indians?╟╓ famed fireballer who pitched three no-hit games during his 20-year career. C. K. Yang, Formosa-born decathlon champion who* com- peted both for his homeland and his college, UCLA. He will be honored as the Sportsmen?╟╓s International Athlete. Don Budge, one of the all- time tennis greats, who was Wimbledon and U.Si national singles and doubles champion. Paul Endacott, who gleamed basketball from its Inventor, Dr. James Naismith, tHhen went on to become a^fhree- time All-American. Cornelius Warmerdam, the first man to pole vault 15 feet, and he did it 43 times?╟÷without benefit of a Fiberglas pole. Lloyd Mangrum, former na- tional champion, who was golf?╟╓s leading money winner in 1951. K TED LINDSAY Hockey star Special honors also will be given to a present-day sports star as ?╟úAthlete of the Year.?╟Ñ He?╟╓s Lew Alcindor, former UCLA basketball great who is now playing with Milwaukee in the National Basketball As- sociation. AMONG THOSE presenting the awards are Sid Caesar, Dean Jones, Mike Connors, Clint Walker, Gary Conway,) Cameron Mitchell and Rutaj Lee. During each presentation, j filmed action highlights of the' winners?╟╓ greatest sports \ achievement will be shown. Half-time entertainment will be provided by Della Reese, a Detroit-bom singing star; vocalist Frankie Randall and comedian Rip Taylor. VICTORS are conferred an- nually on athletes whose out- standing performances have made diem champions in the past and whose exemplary conduct makes each of them an inspiration to youth of today. Winners are selected by a nationwide committee of more than 100 prominent sports- writers and sportscasters.
