IRV TERRY CHAIRS SPORTSMENS WORLD AWARD EVENT I More than 1,000 guests witnessed the World Awards Presentation sponsored by the Sporty men?╟╓s Club for the City of Hope at the Sand<* Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and chaired by Irv Terry of Wilkins Regulator Co. and Rudy La Russo, past basketball great of the N.B.A. For the fourth consecutive year, the Sports- men?╟╓s Club staged the gala banquet honoring the great athletes of yesteryear from around the world. The award, in the form of a handsome gold statuette and known as the Victor, was given to men selected by two hundred leading sports writers and sportscasters across the nation under the direction of National Selections Committee chairman, W. R. (Bill) Shroeder, director of the Helms Athletic Foundation, and Los Angeles sportscaster Chuck Benedict. The event was tele- vised for a nationwide audience with Art Link- letter as master of ceremonies. Award winners from the Hall of Fame included Roger Ward for auto racing; Ellsworth Vines, in the world of tennis; golf winner was Dr. Cary Middlecoff; Bernard Geoffrion for football; Bill Sharman in basketball; the great Stan Musial in baseball; . 1
