o The Reader?╟╓s Digest PLEA SAN T VILLE ?╟≤?√ßNEW YORK March 6, 1959 Dear Mr. Freeman: I am writing an article on franchises for our magazine and would appreciate hearing about Angelita Bread. This is the kind of thing I?╟╓d like to know: Tell me about yourself or the originator of your system ?╟÷ what were you (or he) doing that led to your development into a franchise system and how did you get the idea to expand through this method? How successful financially has the enterprise been for you, the originator? Go into dollars and cents, even enclose a copy of a financial statement if you will, but if not give me specific information to indicate the extent of your successful exploitation of your idea. Tell me how your system is bringing success also to your franchise agents. Give me your best human interest story to make the greatest appeal to our 60,000,000 American readers ?╟÷ your outstanding operator -- what he did before, how much he made, how he works now, what he makes now, what he has to say about it. What kind of people seek your franchise? Young fellows eager to get ahead? Retired army officers? Former executives or lesser employees of large corporations fed up with being "organiza- tion" men? What motivates them besides the understandable urge for more income? Describe what your franchise means to the public it serves -- convince us that a lot of people find life more con- venient or satisfying because of you and your agents. Give me the benefits of your thoughts on the larger significance of the franchise method of doing business. You must have thought about it a lot. Do you see it as a training ground for business men ?╟÷ or just what is the greatest contribution the system makes to our way of life? Cordially yours, Please reply to this address: BLAKE CLARK, ROVING EDITOR, 1*7*277"?╟╓?╟╓AVETWifW***W7THTPrCTOW77*TTC. 2^k0 Kalorama Rd., N.ft., Washington 8, D.C.
