EDITORIAL OFFICES LIFE 221 NORTH LASALLE STREET CHICAGO I ILL. Aug, 27, 1963 Mr, A1 Freeman Promotion Director Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: The New York fellows, after agreeing wholeheartedly on the news- worthiness of Red Skelton and his bridge, took a look at their layout sheets today and realized that's the week of our Russian issue. By the time Red Skelton Bridge hit the newsstands, they'd be widening it to six lanes. And it was planned for the Newsfronts section in the front of the magazine, making a news peg mandatory. Now we have another reason for toeing (or is it kicking?) the party line. But, as Red says, they'll be over here in a few years anyhow. And who knows but what some co-existence Commissar might change the name to St. Patrick's Bridge?╟÷or something. I'm unhappy at not getting to do the story, although for admittedly selfish reasons. I'd looked forward to seeing both of you on your swinging swing through the Midwest. This is a wonderful area, though the terrain sometimes gets a bit tedious. After you have your heli- copters off the ground, there's another promising business possi- bility you might explore. Build a mountain a little south of here and charge people 50 cents to look at it.
