I agree.Joseph defranco DIRECTOR PUBLIC RELATIONS September 2, 1963 Mr. Al Freeman Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Al: Enclosed is a press kit covering the schedule of events for the Partners in Progress program. Many of the numberous details of this program do not appear because there are so many sidelights to the program. As an example, the national press dinner scheduled for 8:00 o?╟╓clock Saturday, September 14, for 125 to 150 of the national press that we have flown to South Bend from Bonneville. This dinner would be an ideal place for Red to make an appearance and say hellow to the group. Preceding this is a very formal sit-down dinner for the Senators of the State of Indiana and other illuminaries from Washington. At this dinner, we would like to have Red crown the queen of Partners in Progress. An appearance, a hellow and the crowning will suffice. The parade commences at 12:15, and Red would be at the head or the end of the parade. I would like to discuss this further with you, about having Red appear in our ?╟╓64 convertible driving up the center of the town. Recognizing the tight schedule all of you must work on, I can assure you we will not make too many demands on your time. Also enclosed is a packet of material on Sherwood H. Egbert, president of Studebaker Corporation, a very dynamic, young guy and a very successful executive who not only was a neighbor of Red?╟╓s in Bel-Air but still owns a home at Eldorado in Palm Springs. If you can orient whatever puns and jokes Red proposes toward Egbert and the University of Notre Dame, it would be in keeping with the setting of the day. I will be in close telephone contact with you daily, Al, 635 SOUTH MAIN STREET ?╟≤ SOUTH BEND 27, INDIANA ?╟≤ ATLANTIC 9-7111
