Organist and Choir Director Charles Wesley Emerson was born November 30,1837, in Pittsfield, Vermont, and died November 30, 1908, in Millis, Massachusetts. In the course of a busy life of seventy years, he was successively a clergyman, physician and teacher. In 1880, he opened the Boston Conservatory of Oratory which in 1890 was named Emerson College of Oratory in his honor.
