I paint without props, thus having to depend on the images in my mind. By the same token, I can envisage more easily the imaginary props I use in the pantomimes." The Skeltons have a daughter, Valentina, 16. A son, Richard Skelton, died May 10, 1958, after a prolonged battle with leukemia, at the age of 9. The Skeltons alternate between their hilltop home in Bel-Air and their beautiful house on the grounds of the Tamarisk Country Club near Palm Springs. In addition to painting, Skelton is an inveterate photographer and has a fortune invested in cameras. He carries a miniature camera in his pocket at all times. He is also a student of American history, in general, and of the life and times of Abraham Lincoln, in particular. During the years since achieving fame and success, he has acquired a number of scholastic honors. In 1961, Skelton was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature by Emerson College of Boston, Mass, In addition, Emerson?╟╓s Phi Alpha Tau fraternity named him the 9th recipient of the Joseph E?╟? Conner Memorial Award for his contribution in the field of communications, an award given previously to such illustrious citizens as Edward R. Murrow, Robert Frost, Gen* Carlos P. Romulo and Arthur Fiedler, more.,,
