FROM (Florida Clipping Service, Tampa) Florida Sun (Miami Beach) FLORIDA DATE Edith Gywnn "Band Wag(m" -is bowing around the country, with raves for Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse and Jack Buchanan already re-^ corded in many spots. Some-will undoubtedly hail Buchanan (a huge hit in the film) as "a new find." Forgetting (or never having known) that this seasoned actor-dancer \v4s a top stage star 25 years ago! If you caught the lithe and limber Jack on that Bob Hope TV'er, you'll scarce believe he's sixty-one. Yep, - 61 years young! And about to sign with Metro to co- star with F. Astaire and Gene Kelly in a future musical. . . A chum of ours kidded Buchanan, "You don't dance like you used to." Jack laughed, "I don't do ANYTHING like I used to!" . . . This brings us to an item in. the( daily prints headed, "Man With No Vices to Celebrate 90th Birthday." So Russ Landi asked, "How???" Piper Laurie should stick to pictures and quit .making phoney quotes like, "I nj|rer go out with movie people." ]p^g-tsteady dates, producer Leonard Goldstein, and actor Carlos Thompson may or may not be amused by such piffle from Piper. . . John Agar again trods the "comeback" trail when he co-stars with, Cleo Moore in "Bait" next week. Hugo Hass produces. ?╟≤?·!?·?╟≤ Back East they've named Denise Darcel, "Miss Advertising Essentials." (When it comes to essentials, Denise has 'em all!). . . Topic of the day, no matter how much too much is being said, is Jane Powell, a top fan- mag poll winner for three years and also a super box-office attraction. Therefore, we take up sidelights on recent front-paged news. With the upcoming divorce of Jane and Geary Steffen, he will be the worst off, spiritually. It was Steffen, a devout Catholic, who insisted' they be wed in the Church. This quite possibly precludes his ever marrying again. In all fairness, there IS something to be saia for both sides. A court battle (especially over custody over their two children) looms over Jane and Geary's abrogation settlement. Under the Calif, community property laws, he's "entitled" to half the money la Powell has made since their marriage. Not only is her's a tremendous amount compared to his rather small earnings, but he's asking his full "share!" According to Jane,' who is speaking freely to pals, that would include her "presenting" him with an apartment building which happens to ment building which happens to house her Ma. Bitterness o n Geary's part may be at the bottom of this. But ?╟÷ after all! The only thing Jane is mum about:- Her already reported plan to wed Gene Nelson. She says, "I couldn't marry anyone for at least a year ?╟÷ and besides, I tlon't want to get married again." As for Nelson, the settlement talks with his wife have reached a stage known as stalemate!
