Attending this conference are 31 government officials and scientific advisors representing 10 foreign nations who this morning witnessed an atomic detonation at the nearby Proving Grounds* Tonight18 conference was designed as a combination of establishing social contact between the representative nations and the members of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission* Additionally, the meeting was aimed at an exchange of ideas on civil defense in terms of defense against nuclear agression. But as this reporter left the conference room momentarily to report this story, the meeting had developed into an intense question- answer session, wherein the foreign representatives presently are grilling U.S. A.B.C. officials on all aspects of nuclear weaponry* To put it mildly, the foreign observers were all extremely impressed with the atomic explosion they witnessed this morning from a vantage point 10 miles away from the detonation.
