Last week on-the way to the j Rose Bowl the bus had motor j trouble at Amarillo, Tex. 1 Rather than wait an estimated ! 38 hours/for repairs the stu- ' dents hitch-hiked to Cali- !? fornia. Max Rushmeyer, a law I student from Ottumwa, ] stayed with the bus and rode it to Pasadena. Then he rounded up the others / j who had paid $55 for the j i round trip and they started j j baek for Iowa. * After the breakdown at Victorville, 24 of the students I started hitch-hiking east with signs reading "Iowa or bust." ; Two others bought a $150 car <in Las Vegas. Nine others wandered into | the lobby of the luxurious Sands. When Manager Entratter heard of their plight he i made them his guests. Three I others of the Sands Iowa j guests were picked up on the | highway by a hotel employee.
