I helped the Sands Hotel fee-] brate its fourth birthday in the wee hours of the morning and, my wish fbr its future is to help < observe its one hundreth MM day. If any establishment deserves] long life, it is the Sands and Ii can think, of many reasons^whyl I should be around in a hundred years to celebrate its century m Las Vegas, but none more important than the opening of the Time Capsule, which adorns the entrance to the Hot% and in which is enclosed a column I wrote the day the Sands opened its doors for business. I should like to re-read it if for no other reason than to see if everything I I predicted in the year 1952 has comeliS. I am that curious. If any place deserves to have the whole town stand up and sing that old birthday &tty, f s the Sands, which brobght in for the occasion the biggest show ever held in Las Vegas, or anywhere else for that matter. Danny Thomas, the Golden Rule of theentertainment wprld, Frank Sinatra, the hottest, all-, around showman, and one of the real great talents of the show world, Je*ry Lewis, all on one bill are almost beyond the most imaginative and hopeful dreams ?╟? of any show producer, and yet, Jack Entratter had them all on the Sands stage early this morning. The Sands is one of the bright spots of the town. Possibly one of the few places which has contributed more to the well-being j of our community than it has, extracted from it. It has long practiced unselfishness in its at-j made towards the town and has set a standard for others to follow. Tremendous and good pubji-| city flows from it. National telej vision spectaculars have used the Sands as background. T^ finest of movies have been done] at the Sands, and through the encouragement of its manage-] ment. The picture "Meet Me In Las] Vegas" did more good for the entire area than did news of atom bomb tests. The amount of newspaper and camera men brought in for Sands openings is beyond count and all of them have gone back to write favor- able stories because onL favor- able reports can "emanate from I till*, hotel. Other Strip hotels have done the Same, but the volume from the $|tnds is immeasdVable. Other hotels sometimes frowned upon the gestures of hospitality of colorful "Colonel" Jake Freedman, such as picking up the tab for everyone in the dining room olfa New Year's Eve. But just imagine the good will generated in every state, in every city represented by the people in the room^hat night.
