He left Georgetown Law School in 1940 and was appointed a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His first assignment was at Phoenix, Arizona, after which he was transferred to Seattle. He was married shortly thereafter to Yvette Doyon of Water- ville, Maine. In 1941 Maheu opened a resident agency for the FBI at Aberdeen, Washington. After the U. S. entered World War II, Bob Maheu received a commendation from the Bureau for the intelligence network he had set-up along the Washington State coastline. In March, 1943, Maheu was called to Washington for an undercover assignment under the direction of the late Assistant Director E. J. Connelly. Later he became assistant to Connelly and was in charge of a special squad of Agents dealing exclusively in major espionage and intelligence cases. At the end of World War II he became supervisor of the Administrative Division of the New York FBI Office. In November, 1947, Maheu resigned from the Bureau and started a brokerage firm in Maine. His business took him to New York City and the Maheus made their home at New Rochelle. In 1950, he went to Washington, D. C, and worked for the Small Defense Plants Administration, now the Small Business Administration. When the latter agency was organized, Maheu was named Special Assistant to the Administration and held that position until 1953 when he formed Robert A. Maheu Associates, consultants in management engineering, civic and public relations. He is also Director of the dozen-member American Foundation for Ecumenical Research and Studies, an all-faith group which will meet in New York from time to time. Mr. Maheu is a member of the Los Angeles District Attorney's Advisory Council; YMCA Century Club; Jonathan Club, Riviera Tennis Club, Balboa Bay Club and the Society of Former Agents of the F.B.I. He is currently a member of the Executive Board, Boulder Dam Area Council, Boy Scouts of America and has been appointed by the Governor of Nevada to Membership on the Governor's Manpower and Economic Development Conference. Also, the University of Nevada Board of Regents has appointed him to the Nevada Southern University Land Foundation.
