Sands Hotel exec Brig. Gen. Charles Baron was presented with a captured Viet Cong semi-automatic carbine by Brig. Gen. Charles R. Meyer, who just returned from service with General Westmoreland's staff in Vietnam. General Meyer stated, "General Baron has done more for the morale of our fighting forces in Vietnam by sending packages of recreational materials, pictures, and personal letters, than anyone I know. This small token of our affection and appreciation was captured by the 26th Infantry Regiment of the ROK Capitol Division at the battle of Bong Son during Operation Irving. It is being presented on behalf of the many fighting men who benefitted from General Baron1s selfless work and interest in their welfare while fighting away from home." more. . .
