Abstract
The William N. Thompson Photographic Slide Collection (approximately 1955-2002) consists of color photographic slides of gaming establishments in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. In addition to images depicting the interior and exterior of casinos, the photographs also include maps showing legal gambling in different regions, and images of brothels, racetracks, hotels, in the United States and internationally.

Biographical / Historical Note
William N. Thompson is professor emeritus of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He earned a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1972. Before arriving at UNLV in 1980, Thompson taught at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Michigan from 1971 to 1980. He also taught abroad at Troy State University's European campuses from 1986 to 1987. His research explores administrative behavior, political economy, public regulation of gaming, and ethics.

Processing Note
Materials were processed by Special Collections staff. In 2015, as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project, Lindsay Oden wrote the collection description and entered the data into ArchivesSpace in compliance with current professional standards. In 2019, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Melise Leech added additional materials, rehoused the collection, and revised the collection description to comply with current professional standards.
