20 LAS VEGAS SUM Monday, May 18, 1964 H ?√ßi A i 13 11 12 A reporters report: Rumors have been buzzing for several weeks now and yesterday Jack Entratter and Carl Cohen revealed their ambitious plans for the enlargement and remodeling of The Sands. This is important news in Las Vegas because it means that two of the most astute and respected operators on the Strip have faith in the growth and future of the community. Entratter, president and chairman of the bbard, and Cohen, vice-president, have about $10,000,000 worth of faith and will back it with cold, hard cash. This is heartening news when you consider that some other hotel executives and gambling men are watching the economy with a wary eye. "Las Vegas is going to grow and we're going to grow with it," said Entratter. "We hope to make The Sands not only the No. I hotel in this city but in the entire country/' "There are more prosperous days ahead than we have yet seen/' said Cohen, certainly, one of the most respected and discerning casino operators in all of Nevada. Entratter and Cohen, who were reelected to their top posts for a five-year term at a Board of Directors meeting last January, will oversee the massive expansion program. They will continue to be in the future, as they have in the past, the key men directly in charge of all operations. "We will break ground the day after Labor Day on our new 18-story high-rise," said Entratter. "It will take about a year to complete all phases of the work." In addition to the 18-story building, to be constructed on the Strip adjoining the present property, plans call for an enlarged casino, a new cocktail lounge with a hydraulic stage to seat 300 people, the Regency Room, dedicated to gourmet dining, and another coffee shop. When completed, The Sands certainly will be a sparkling new jewel on the glittering Strip. And the men who will keep the jewel bright?╟÷at least for the next five years?╟÷will be Entratter and Cohen. Mark it false! There is a report around town that Dusty Springs- ton Is about to return to the Las Vegas Bowl, which he said some time ago. It's not true. Lloyd Pitzer and Buddy Bomar will retain control. ill xil^fc ?√ß
