I agree.Sports Illustrated (which he also represents) would be interested in some pictures and a story. He has since confirmed that they will accept a picture and Buck is getting some of the best ones printed. A boating magazine, "Sea" has also been contacted and is awaiting <L pictures for a coming Edition and Don Paine, Las Vegas News Bureau, is contacting others for confirmation. The reason for this is simply that people interested in sailing and yachting are a prime market for resorts, hotels etc. They are people who like fun and Las Vegas presents a place to go on the off-sailing season. To this end, I would hope we might take film clips this year to use in promotion pictures for both the Sands and the area. Cost-wise, the event is a bargain. Last year the Sands purchased three trophies (total $80) and held an impromtu cocktail party for the group. A day before the main group arrived, Joe Buck and Bill Buck (no relation), who organized the Los Angeles faction, and theae wives attended the dinner show and we held the check. They paid for the A rooms at regular rates and a number of them stayed three nights, departing Monday, giving the Sands an extra night's business. All things considered, this event would seem a good one to repeat, both as a promotion to stimulate business and also a good entree in the sports business ?╟÷ a nice way to begin dealing with sports writers, etc., in preparation for the day when the Sands go 141 course opens.
