Norm Marchment (lead boat) held on to successfully defend his title Malibu Yacht Club Holidays at Lake Mead ?√ß Norman Marchment successfully defended his title in the second invitational Malibu YC Holiday Regatta at Lake Mead, hosted by the Sands Hotel. Ten Malibu-18 outrig- gers and three Malibu-12s trailered east for the Oct. 30 event. In contrast to last year?╟╓s regatta, light winds held off racing until the fleet was towed up to Las Vegas Wash in search of winds and finally got in a race in late afternoon. Marchment finished on top in his Mai Tai, with Jim Harp, MYC, taking second in Hoku and Harry Marchment, MYC, placing third in Odin. In the Malibu-12 class, Allen Par- ducci, MYC, took honors in his Pupa. Jim Harp is the cur- rent Malibu-18 national champion and Parducci is national champion of the Malibu-12 class. ?√ß The winds ranged from 0 to 30 knots in directions from 0?? to 360?? during Windjammers?╟╓ YC?╟╓s annual Cruising Classes Race Oct. 16, off Marina Del Rey. Fifty starters in eight classes completed a 15-mile course composed almost entirely of beating to weather caused by wind shifts at nearly each mark. Oscar Machado, WYC, topped the Cal 28 class in his Natcherly and Sandy Greenberg, CYC, placed second in Misty. The Feather class was taken by Carl Newcomb, WYC, in Alado. Les Jackson, SMYC, captured Coronado 25 honors in Lainie 11 and Paul Obdyke, WYC, took second in Naniloa II. In the Dolphin class, Ron Kaussen, WYC, placed first in Missy Goose and John Ambrose, WYC, took second in Amber Rose. Schock 25 honors went to Larry Bartlett, CYC, in Laura II, with Robert Crum, KHYC, placing second in Windsong II. Ed Wheelock, WYC, in Matilda was top finisher in the 58-S Cal 20 class. Jim Sharp, WYC, placed second in Cricket and Wayne Branin, SBYRC, took third in Wahoo. In the Electra class, William Kestener, SMYC, placed first in Lorelei and George Lee, WYC, placed second in Seabuggy. Alex Jenkins, SMYC, took top honors in PC class in his Six Bits and Phil Chase, CYC, took second in Blue Chip. ?√ß Sixty-four skippers turned out for the Third Annual Jolly Roger Regatta for centerboarders under 20 feet sponsored by Windjammers?╟╓ YC in the harbor at Marina Del Rey Oct. 30.
