REPLY TO ATTN Offs SG DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE HEADQUARTERS, 4520TH UNITED STATES AIR FORCE HOSPITAL (TAC) NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, NEVADA 89110 18 September 67 Mr, A1 Freeman The Sands Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada Dear Mr. Freeman Thank you very much for your support in the Nellis AFB Blood Donor Program by providing a dinner show for two at your establishment. It is most gratifying to know such outstanding rapport exists between the military and civilian community. I am confident that your providing these tickets has enhanced the success of the Blood Donor Program at this Base, and I trust that it will be possible for you to continue to par- ticipate in this program. If I can be of service to you, please call me. Sincerely r\ JAMES H. STUTEVILLE, Lt Colonel, USAF, MC Tuesday June 37,196? Dear Al: As your guests, my wife and I saw Red Skelton and had dinner at THE SANDS last night. This is to tell you how very much we enjoyed the show and the dinner as well. There is positively no entertainer in the world like Red. He is always funny and he tears at your heart strings every time you watch him. Skelton is much more than a clown. He is a fine human being who has convert- ed the art of entertaining into-a medium that gives to all who watch him, a certain portion of the good, in him- self . I remember Red from his days as an entertainer at the old Chicago Dance Marathons, some 33 years ago. He was great even then. His jokes are sidesplittingly funny, and his silent rep- ertoires are so diverting as to be unique in the whole field of entertainment. And when he finishes with the old man watching the parade, there is not a dry eye in the house(me included;. Please tell him that the guy with the big mustache who watches him ringside,is his greatest admirer. To you Al,I must say again, thank you for your kindness in making such a delightful ebening possible for us,each 3 months when we come up here. Always cordially, J ?ç jf DAILY SIGNAL SERVING THE GREATER SOUTHEAST COMMUNITY June 1 3, 1967 Dear Mr, Freeman: Thanks for your courtesy on reservations fort he Red Skelton Show. I know tbe taking over of the Sands by H. H. probably wasn't too much of a surprise to you, but we on the outside, naturally, felt it. All I can say is that if you and Jack still have the freedom that you always had, the Sands will remain the number one spot. Too me, person- ally, you and Jack are the main headliners over there. I notice that the weather has been rather warm in Vegas and I do hope that you are holding up under it. While writing I might mention that I was out to see Louella on Saturday and the poor thing is just wither- ing away. I firmly believe that the toughest part of life is when one grows old and there is nothing to be done, only sit and wait. It really is a sad sad ending. Soon I will surprise you with a visit. I will be happy to see all of the remodeling and building that you have done, as I always felt the Sands was just like a second home to me and it holds such beautiful memories. Having appeared in the news with Danny Thomas, I can assure you I'm very big in Bay City. It was an honor to meet Mrs. Thomas, Danny and you. I hope the opportunity arises for me to re- ciprocate your cooperation and hospitality at some future date. Cordially yours. iU> Bernard Peters Lt. Col. (Ret.) Assistant Director of Public Affairs JIMMY McHUGH / June 13, 1967 Dear Al, You are a sweetheart if there ever was one, and you'd better believe it. I have been thinking of you constantly and have wanted to come up, but between going to New York for ASCAP meetings and Washington, I haven't had very much time to go elsewhere. I did speak to Jack last week, when he came out of the hospital, from dear old Dr. Shapiro's office. I promise you within the next month I will come up and spend a weekend with you. I have been so lonesome for both you and Jack, just to sit with you for five minutes and reminisce. Naturally, I will tell you the story on Louella when I see you. All of my dearest love to you always, and please know that I will never forget your many, many kind- nesses to both Louella and myself. Also, thanks so much for the wire. Love N.
