FREEMAN COMPANY pub/feists - 3 - And from the 382 girls who have worked as CopaGirls in Entratter!s productions at the Sands, 72 hopefuls have made the successful jump from the CopaGirl line to Hollywood contracts, successful screen tests, and well paying TV work, which his help made possible. The well-known producer often finds it a problem to keep his Copa line filled with girls worthy of the title, which he has built up into a modern American show business phenomenon, and even announced last year that he might have to go overseas for beautiful girls to replenish his CopaGirl lines, because he felt that pretty American showgirl material was getting 11 scarcer and scarcer?╟Ñ. Not that American beauty was fading out, Entratter hastened to add, but just that the idea of going into show business as a career isn*t as glamorous today to the average female fame- seeker as it was years ago. When his statements appeared in print, a flood of indignant letters from star-struck young and pretty girls all over the country hit Entratter at The Sands--in fact, with such force that he has scheduled a nationwide contest, broken up into ten regions, with prizes of a six-month contract worth $5, 000, at The Sands, to be awarded twice a year on a revolving basis, so as to provide a steady flow of potential CopaGirls into The Sands produc- tions, and then on into their Mecca of Hollywood and the TV networks. Entratter has also set up a working arrangement with the National Press Photographers Association, to select some of the runners-up to the girl chosen as ,lMiss Press Photographer?╟Ñ as future CopaGirls on a steady basis, because he feels that news lensmen have a better eye for beauty and pose than most profes- sional bigtime show producers. The popular producer gets letters to this day from girls he helped back in his Copa days in the early !40?s, as well as letters asking for advice on how to deal with contract proposals or future script assignments, from more recent graduates of his CopaGirl line now working in movies and TV. - more - ?╟≤9-5-08 W til SHI RE BLVD 7 .B' EVER
