    5029 Newton D^ive Las Ve Nevada November 17, I965 Mr. Ron Lrickson Publicity Department Sands Hotel las Vegas, Nevada Dear Hon: A benefit performance, "The Wide Wild World of Jazz", will be helf at the Sands Hotel's new Convention Hall on Saturday, November 27, 19&5, at 2:30 a.m. Las Vegas composer-conductor Raoul Romero, a native of El Paso, Texas, and his 20-piece orchestra will play a two-hour concert on behalf of the Clark County Association for Retarded Children. Featured with the Romero orchestra will be vocalist Bunny Phillips and zhe Rick Davis ensemble. Also featured will be trombone soloist Carl Montana, formerly with Woody Herman's Third Herd and also the Stan Kenton orchestra; Charlie McLaine, Jazz alto sax virtuoso; and special guest musician, Louie Valizan, trumpet artist with ES^UIVEL. Music for this special concert has been written by Herbie Phillips and Raoul Romero, with additional arrangements by Abe Nole and Charlie Loper. All are members of the Romero orchestra . "The Wide Wild World of Jazz" will include 2GM&i& inspired by the music of other countries of the world. These orchestrations are jazz-oriented melodies and rhythms of Brazil, Spain, France, Last India, Israel, the Caribbean Sea, in addition to the American negro influences. Also included will be music from Walt Disney!s "Mary Poppins", arranged by Romero, and other h$ush??x:k popular music. In the past, the Raoul Romero orchestra has performed before standing-room-only crowds at the Las Vegas Convention Center, with guest artists Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra, Jr. The orchestra has also performed before most of -Las Vegas high schools as part of a "Jazz in the Classroom" series sponsored by the American Federation of Musicians1 Trust Fund. The orchestra is composed of Las Vegas1 finest musicians currently working in show rooms and Lounges throughout the Las Vegas Strip. It x&x is designed primarily to afford its members the opportunity to play and perform jazz music, a very rare commodity in Las Vegas. In addition, it has given local composers and orchestrators incentive to create original works of great potential jazz value. Raoul Romero, the orchestra's founder and director, was a member of Antonio Morelli's orchestra at the Sands Hotel from 1956 to 1963. He has since toured the United States with the Tommy Dorsey and Woody Herman orchestras as arranger and saxophonist. Romero's music can be heard on
