The trophy, which Smith won by piloting the boat "Shotgun11, symbolizes man's conquest over the waters. It is a be jeweled gold-and-silver sculpture of eagles pulling a Medusa out of the waves* The eagles1 eyes are genuine ruoies; the Medusa's eyes are actual emeralds* The work of art was designed by Italy's Professor Renato Brozzi, now in his Ifcwely 90's. Professor Brozzi was the favorite sculptor of Gabriel D'Annunzio, hero of World War I, and considered the greatest Italian poet after Dante. Experts have appraised the trophy as the greatest work of art in its field.
