D. 3,075) OCT 6 1967 ] ~dlll4n & Est. 188& ?╜ (>(*' Pzaz^uS" Opens Friday At Las Vegas' Desert Inn LAS -MESAS (UPI) Pzazz 68" ?╟÷ The firit extravaganza to be produced at the Desert Inn Hotel since the resort was purchased by billionaire Howard Hughes ?╟÷ opened Friday night. The spectacular raced through past years of Hollywood at a break-neck speed. Seventy dancers, singers and show girls wore 350 different costumes during the two-hour production. If the mystery shrouded billionaire saw the show, it undoubtedly was on closed circuit televison in his suites at the gambling resort which he purchased last spring. The show paid tribute to Mae West, Carmen Miranda, Julie Andrews, Fred. Astaire, the road shows starring Bing Crosby Bob Hope and Dorothy j Lamour, and modern-day hippies. "Pzazz 63" was elaborately costumed by Bill Campbell, but was noteably absent of bare bosoms. In the "tribute to Fred Astaire" alone, Campbell used 950 yards of chiffon and 500 yards of feather boa trim. More than 270 hats were worn during the show, including some of gigantic proportion stopped by colored live birds which matched the costumes. The show did not feature just one spectacular staging phenomena ?╟÷ but several. An oil field exploded on stage in the "boom town" scene. A huge water fall was the backdrop for a Polynesian routine and three large movie screens were employed to flash credits to the audience as well as clips from silent movies.
