*s By LANE GAY JOHNSTON For two and a half hours last r night, the world was happi ness and light for about 6,000 'persons seated around a frosty i stage at the Mid-South Colise-- j um as Holiday on Ice presented its silver anniversary pro- | duction. | Incorporated a little bit of the madness that was Rome, the swinging go-go girls of South America and the favorite holidays of all seasons, Holiday on Ice opened an eight-; performance engagement with I colorful pizazz. Beginning with a happy birthday celebration, performers glided into New Year with a Valentine holiday for lovers and a delightful, peppy act featuring Tommy Allen and Juanita Percelly (Mrs. Allen). Then comes spring and the mad mod world of April fools featuring hippie animals cavorting to the glee of children in the audience. But real monkey shines featuring the Muller Chimps seemed to catch the fancy of the entire audience as chimps skipped rope, jumped hurdles and clowned with abandon. Another animal act, Koss- m a y e r 's mules, evoked screams of delight from viewers as audience participants tried to ride the "unrideable" mules of Dutch comedian Karl Kossmayer. Mounting the mules seemed hard enough, but staying on them proved impossible for the JO lithe young men who tried. However, the crowd-pleaser of the night seemed to be Ronnie Robertson, former United States Olympic star and world's professional figure skating champion. This will be the 31 year-old star's last performance in Memphis, as he will retire after the season. An Olympian at 16, ne turned professional at 17, His solo performance include "Pagliacci" in "Salute to the Operas" and as "The Devil's Disciple" in "Halloween Time." Also cutting a debonair figure on skates was Ray Balmer ! who has returned to the United j States after two successful I years with Holiday on Ice in Europe. This is his 13th year with the show.
