(1) January 26, 1987 marked another milestone for the "Hello Hollywood Hello" Show. Bally's Grand Reno celebrated the 6,000th showing of its famous Show. Congratulations go out to all of the Cast, Crew, and Showroom personnel that have made this Show possible down through the years. You've done a great job and you deserve a nice long standing ovation. On October 15th, of 1979, Tony Anderson helped celebrate the 1,000th Show by writing a salute entitled "Tidbits & Trivia". Tony was a stage technician at the time and gathered numerous statistics and trivia on the Show for his salute. Nothing was made up for the 2,000th or 3,000th Show as Tony had left backstage. I had noticed his salute aroused a lot of interest for more trivia and updated statistics, so I wrote a salute for the 4,000th Show on December 14th, 1983. Another salute was written for the 5,000th Show on June 28th,1985. With each salute, more and more information was gathered and if we go much beyond 6,000 Shows, these salutes are sure to become booksize. These salutes are written mainly for the Cast and Crew of the "Hello Hollywood Hello" Show and the numerous interested employees at Ballyfs Grand Reno. Any information to the Press or to the public from this salute is to be done either with the permission or in coordination with the Publicity Department at Bally's Grand Reno. This is a salute and is not meant to be a publicity fact sheet. Your descretion and cooperation with this salute will be appreciated and will help assure management's cooperation with future projects of this type. The most difficult task in these salutes is to amass and organize all of the statistics, trivia, and information about the Theatre. To do this, I have divided the Theatre into different departments, put them in alphabetical order, and added some trivia and historical information about the Show. Letfs take first things first and begin with the history of the Show. HISTORY The "Hello Hollywood Hello" Show was originally suppose to open in conjunction with the Hotel and Casino opening on May 3rd 1978. Most of the scenery was built in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and had to be trucked to Reno. Many of the costumes were made in Paris and were shipped to San Francisco in steamer crates. Due to severe snow storms during the Spring of 1978, much of the costumes and scenery could not make it across the pass in time for the May 3rd opening. As a result, Dean Martin opened the Ziegfeld Theatre for the first two weeks of May. Mac Davis and Joan Rivers followed for the remaining two weeks in May. Finally on June 2nd, the Show opened to two packed houses and was an instant success. As in the origin of most new Shows, ideas change and many times wonderful ideas are found to be technically too difficult to stage. The preparation of this Show was no different. Many ideas and numerous pieces of scenery were scrapped because of technical difficulties, feasibility, or changes in design.
