WINTER ISSUE, 1982 ALL SIGNS "GO" I know we've all heard it somewhere ?╟÷ "Give and you shall receive." Alex Romero The need for a Performing Arts Company was clearly seen at our last Gypsy picnic in June. The response was terrific arr1 although the show was on the rough side, it was still great. The scholarship kids, because of June school activities missed most of the rehearsals and still came up with a great performance. Their attitude and drive was exhilarating, making the performance a delight to watch and rehearsals great fun. Let's hear it for youth! We all know that for organizations such as P.D.S. "Funding" is the name of the game. The very lifeline, if you will, towards achieving the goals, aims and dreams of an organization. Peggy Gordon, our President, and the Board of Directors have been working long and hard hours in many directions towards "Funding" with good success. They, along with our benefactors, deserve our applause. Our new Performing Arts committee will soon come up with plans and a schedule. I'm happy to say that will be a big factor in our drive for funding. Not dreams, but great plans within the committee. Our job, with help, can be done quickly and easily, because within our very own ranks we have the creative people and dancers to form a Performing Arts Company that can match anything around. Yes, it too will take money and time and hard work ?╟÷ but then, what dancer isn't used to putting in time and hard work? As well as working for little money ?╟÷ doing something for ourselves and our own kind would be incentive enough, but we will turn ourselves inside out at just the thought of having our own Performing Arts Company, and we shall have it in time. An exciting, successful touring company carrying our name and logo throughout the country would be the breakthrough we need to attract foundations and corporations for funding us. in turn, for supporting a working Performing Arts Company of a nonprofit organization, these companies and foundations would get a special tax break, which makes us a little more attractive to keep. The benefits of a Performing Arts Company doesn't stop there. Our scholarship kids who otherwise have a terrible time getting established in this business, will be exposed and showcased to producers, directors and choreographers at our functions and performances. They will also benefit by the invaluable "On Stage" experience we give them. We in turn will be left with the great joy and satisfaction of having given a kid a break in show biz and at the same time furthering our own funding program!
