CALEB sitting on the stairs, plays his harmonica. DANIEL and EPHRAIM play checkers at the kitchen table. ADAM sits in front of the fire smoking his pipe. The rest of the brothers pass the time whittling, cleaning their guns etc. MILLY is upstairs, sitting in a rocker in the bedroom, reading the bible and thinking. The BROTHERS ocassionally look upstairs, then cast furtive glances at ADAM. He knows what they?╟╓re all thinking: will his angry bride let him in ?╟÷ but he prefers to find out alone. ADAM (attempting to be casual) Benjamin, you boys got all your chores done? BENJAMIN Yep, we got all our chores done Adam. (All the brothers laugh) (The chimes from the old fashioned clock on the fireplace begin to chime) Ain?╟╓t it ADAM / ?╟╓Bout time you boys was hopping into bed ? Got a big day's plowin' ahead. (The chimes complete ringing nine.) ADAM (contd.) (Hopefully) Nine o'clock already ?╟÷ an hour past your bedtime. FRANK Yours too, Adam.
