.^TY ACTS-VARIED THE SPICE OF LIFE n 1869 with the development of the Folies production, a series of "specialty acts" were enlisted to add variety to the revue. From that point on, specialty acts have always been an important feature in the Folies Bergere ... capturing the romantic age of jugglers, animal acts, clowns, mimes, wrestlers, and acrobats that characterized early European entertainment attractions. The Left Bank district of Paris was responsible for fostering many of the specialty act entertainers, and the Folies Bergere is credited for having introduced them on stage in a production show format Many unknown acts found their stairway to stardom by appearing in the Folies; names like Kara Leonce, the woman who became famous in the variety world by hanging from her teeth on a flying trapeze! The inimitable clown, Grock, the famous illusionists, the Isola Brothers, and countless others all started their careers on the Folies stage. And of course, the Folies wouldn't have been the same without the talents of a young fourteen year old English mime by the name of Charlie Chaplin who came to be loved the world over! Today, the specialty acts are still a major attraction in revues around the world ?╟÷ and the Tropicana Folies is no exception' Through the years the Folies Bergere has showcased individual acts that have gone on to appear on television, in movies, and in some instances, to become world renowned through their talents and creative work! m-w^mi??' *
