If the item doesn't pass there are multiple ways they can use the $500.00. For example, they are having a speaker coming when is open to all UNLV students that is going to cost well over $500.00; SENATOR POWELL- Wants to know if this was submitted by the student organization or by the department; Representative-Christopher Ho- It was submitted by the organization to assist the department. If he knew the money couldn't go towards the department he would have asked for the money towards something else. Their organization is meant to assist choral programs in universities and to get the programs out into the public. What you would be funding to bring in a speaker from California to help educate other students on the correct ways of conducting; SENATOR DAY/vNI- Wants to know if he is trying to change the request to fund the speaker instead of the concert; Representative-Christopher Ho- Yes; SENATE PRESIDEN DAVY- The item will have to go back through Ways and Means if he decides to change his request. They can discuss the item as it is written, but if he wants the money for something else they are going to have to go through the whole process again; Representative-Christopher Ho- The reason he changed it because he was under the impression that the Senate would not give his organization money to help the department; SENATE PRESIDENT DAVY- They don't fund departments if they can help it and they would rather fund his organization for what they want. It depends on what he wants the money for. If he doesn't want the money for the concert then they have to resubmit it; Representative-Christopher Ho- He can definitely use the money for the concert; There was discussion; Move into vote; SENATOR SALSAA and DUNNING cannot vote because they weren't present during the entire discussion; Motion carries 16-2-0; (SENATORS BOWERS and DAYANI oppose); B.
