Directors' Reports Brooke Bohlke - Director of Nevada Student Affairs Director Bohlke reported that Choose or Lose is this Friday. Please tell organizations you are involved in about the event so that more people may attend. For everyone running in the Senate election, there will be tents at Choose or Lose so people can identify you at the event. Everything else is coming to a close. There were no questions for Director Bohlke. Jennifer Hale - Director of CSUN Services Director Hale reported that the organization boxes are done and certificates will be in there tomorrow. The new list of organizations will be out tomorrow or Wednesday. She will print out a list so you can contact any organizations you may need to. There were no questions for Director Hale. Sean McClenahan - Director of Entertainment and Programming "I'd like to start tonight's announcements by saying how disappointed I am in the Senate and the Executive Board. The only senators who have taken an active interest in CSUN sponsored events are Senators Bowers, Bowland, Woodson, Dayani, and Moradkhan, and the only members of the executive board who have shown the same interest are Senate President Davy and Student Body President Moradkhan. I understand that things come up, but I am tired of the Greek excuse for every event. I understand that many of you are members of other organizations, but if you can't come out and support CSUN events, than I think you all should seriously reconsider your positions as Senators. "The oozeball concert turnout on Friday was a complete flop, however the tournament on Saturday went very well -1 believe the CSUN team made it to the semifinals - the team was comprised of Senate President Davy, Senators: Woodson, Moradkhan, Dayani, and Bowland, and Advisory Council Secretary Kelly Martinez. "Also, just a reminder, this Friday is the Choose or Lose concert - which begins at 6 on the North Field "And Saturday, September 30, is our second home football game. Rebel Experience starts at 1 and kickoff is at 4. We are playing Air Force and the game will be televised on ABC. At this game, President Moradkhan and I are working on getting dollar beers for the students. There will be a limit of two beers per student. Each student must have a valid UNLV ID and a valid state ID/Driver's License showing they are above the age of 21. "As a side note, be careful when using the golf cart after dark - Public Safety may stop & harass you for a good 10-15 minutes and falsely accuse of you stealing the cart. On Friday night, during the Oozeball concert, Senator Bowers, myself and a couple others were stopped and harassed for using the cart. When asking for a business card, we were further harassed, and the sergeant - Sgt. Mosovillo - kept saying that since they hit the Rebel Yell, nobody takes them seriously." There were no questions for Director McClenahan. Jason Smylie - Director of Office of Student Information Director Smylie displayed the OSI page. The Choose or Lose publicity campaign is in full swing. There will be little table tents up in the MSU and dining commons. SENATOR DAYANI said that the OSI page is dark and asked if Director Smylie can you make it lighter, so it can be read more clearly? Director Smylie said he could and that if anyone has any ideas with the OSI page to let him know. There were no other questions for Director Smylie. Holly Wainscott - Director of Elections Director Wainscott reported that the Senate election is next week. Everything is going very smoothly. She is impressed with the candidates—they are all conducting themselves very well. She would love to see a big turnout for the candidate forums on Monday and Tuesday. Her board is on the agenda tonight and she requested to ask during the item or now if any senators were concerned with any of the individuals. She reported that she is working on scheduling her first board meeting—but it is hard to find a time to meet, but they will be meeting as soon as possible. The homecoming packet is on tonight's agenda. It is a variation of the process that former Director Ramirez set up last year. Students wanted to be a bigger part of the end result, so the vote is a bigger percentage to the outcome. Only a few things were cut out. She hopes you are satisfied with her hard work. It was hard to come up with, but she hopes it will work out. Oct 18t h and 19t h is the election for homecoming. Two more items next week on the agenda will be from her office. The senate has to approve the locations for the election. The homecoming election is more than 500 dollars so you will have to approve that as well. There were no questions for Director Wainscott. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Action Item: Nomination/Election of one person to serve as a member of the Judicial Council for a two-year term, effective September 1, 2000. SENATOR BOWERS moved to remove the item from the table, seconded by SENATOR DAYANI. Move into a vote on the motion. Motion passes (19-0-0). SENATOR DAYANI moved to nominate Thomas Piatt, seconded by SENATOR CORDONE. Nominations close. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN moved to allow the candidate to speak for no more than two minutes, followed by a short question and answer, followed by a role call vote, seconded by SENATOR BROWN. CANDIDATE PLATT speaks. SENATOR DAYANI asked why he is interested in the judicial position over a senator position. Piatt said he has worked more with constitution materials than senate materials. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN asked why he was not present before. Candidate Piatt said he had a scheduling conflict for the previous meetings, but that he will no longer have problems attending them. SENATOR BROWN asked if he had a chance to review the constitution here at UNLV. Candidate Piatt replied that he had. Move into a vote on the item. Motion passes by a unanimous acclamation. VII. As submitted by Senator Bowers; SENATOR CORDONE moved to approve, seconded by SENATOR CORNELISON. SENATOR HOMAMPOUR asked who has to deal with the theme of Rebel Ruckus. DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT said the banners are for extra publicity and to let students know homecoming is happening. She hopes the banners go after the spirit of homecoming. amended to strike Lino Lomboy. item striking Lino Lomboy, seconded by SENATOR HOMAMPOUR asked "who" exactly decides regarding the banners? DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT said the election board will look at them and make sure there are no offensive items on the banners. SENATOR PELTYN made a point of clarification. SENATOR BROWN asked how the judges are selected? DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT said the election board is going to do that; they are considering community members and/or alumni. They are seeking people that do not have any close affiliations with any groups on campus. They are trying to make the judges as unbiased as possible for the event. SEANTOR DAYANI asked if the interviews with the judges are open or closed. DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT said they would be closed because the panel is after the election. She is concerned that students of large organizations might have too much of a support there, whereas students less involved won't have backing. She thinks it will make things more of an even playing field. SENATOR DAYANI asked if the candidates are there together or if they are separated. DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT said the candidates would go in one by one. SENATOR FLEMING said there is a skip over section three. SENATE PRESIDENT DAVY said a typo correction does not need to be amended. There were no further questions. Move into a vote on the item. Motion passes (19-0-0). VII. PUBLIC COMMENT {in accordance with N.R.S. 241.020 (2)(c)(3)} Phil Burns wanted to give thanks to the welcome crew tables. It meant a lot to all the new students. They gave away 13,000 handbooks. The final numbers aren't in yet, but the support of family weekend was very much appreciated. The participation was almost doubled with the help with the brochure. It is an amazing campus tradition that CSUN has helped with—thank you very much. Mike Ziegler of the Rebel Yell said that he has fifteen questions from the Rebel Yell for the CSUN Senators running in the elections. He asked that the bios stay under 250 words and everything needs to be dropped of by Friday in the Rebel Yell office. Director Bohlke mentioned she would be accepting questions at the candidate forum from 11-1. VIII. EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUMMATIONS STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE GREEN said that all the Directors are doing very well. STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT KNAPP said that performance evaluations for the directors would be in your boxes for this month by the next meeting. He gave congratulations to Thomas Piatt. He is calling more applicants for the judicial council. If you are interested - come in and fill out an application if you aren't running for Senate. He will be at the candidate forum and at Choose or Lose this Friday. STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT P. MORADKHAN said he had a meeting for commencement. The information is up for those graduating in December. Student government will be more active in the applications for speakers for commencement. Oozeball was really awesome. Students noticed we were there, and it's great to be out and in the public eye. We're participating in homecoming as well—we're going to build a float. Since we don't have any budget constraints it should be really cool. The Board of Regents Meeting is October 18t h and 19t h . Also, the Student Government office gets 60 tickets for the football games—theses are available to all of you for your family before he gives them out the Friday before the game at 12 noon. Anyone interested can pick up two tickets until Friday. After Friday, they will be dispersed to the general public. Director McClenahan is looking into purchasing a tent for the Rebel Experience for $7500. In the long run it is cheaper because of the high rental fees. Homecoming banners will be up for each college. It's great for publicity. He expects each Senator to participate in this activity because of its importance. SENATE PRESIDENT DAVY thanked the Rebel Yell—the paper didn't suck last week; good job. She blistered her face in the sun at Oozeball—thanks to who came out. She would really like to see more senators at events to come out and support what we do for the students. It looks REALLY bad if you all don't come out. The oozeball concert was early; you all should have come out before your other event. If anyone is interested in helping in student ticketing at the games let her know. A good idea for the tickets that P. MORADKHAN is giving away is if you know a faculty member that can't get the tickets, get them and give them to the faculty. Mike if you're going to bring Taco Bell - you need to share. After the football game there will be a little party at her house, everyone is welcome to come along. IX. SENATOR BROWN said congrats to the new justice. Sorry he was not here last week. He said he went to the Women's Center. He found out there is little male participation in rape prevention.
