THE ELECTRIC DANCEHALL Adrian Pruett The primary purpose of the techno tent is to give UNLV students, as well as members of the community, a chance to listen to new forms of music that they would not otherwise hear. Techno music itself is only a broad generalization for what is literally a hundred different and individual styles of electronic music. UNLV has the opportunity to bring a new, popular genre of music to its students at a minimal cost. By hiring different DJ's we can allow for a variety of these styles of music, and having a localized tent would permit the DJ's the freedom to play their music while not interfering with the main stage. Allowing anyone the oppertunity to experience new styles of music in an open, freeminded environment is an invaluable service and one that should not be squandered away. Senate Committee Reports: 1. SENATOR CLEMENS stated that Campus Safety and Awareness is meeting tomorrow. 2. SENATOR DAVY stated that Bylaws is meeting on Monday at 6:00. 3. SENATOR MAIETTA stated that Ways and Means met today and the organizations will be receiving funds shortly. B. Faculty Senate/University Committee Reports: 1. SENATOR VENTURA stated that the IAC is meeting on Thursday Tuesday at 2 p.m. SENATOR FISK leaves at 7:05. C. Director Reports: 1. NEVADA STUDENT AFFAIRS DIRECTOR DALEY was not present. 2. ELECTIONS BOARD DIRECTOR RAMIREZ was not present. 3. ORGANIZATIONS BOARD DIRECTOR AYALA stated that there is a meeting next Tuesday and things are running smoothly. 4. ENTERTAINMENT & PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR JOHNS was not present. Assistant Director Lucchese (handed around a report.) He went over their upcoming events. SENATOR FISK returns at 7:09. There were several questions for the Assistant Director. 5. OFFICE OF STUDENT INFORMATION DIRECTOR DE LA FONTAINE stated that she is working on publicity for REBELPALOOZA and the Urban World Film Festival. 6. Residence Hall Liaison Report: SENATE MINUTES 29-13/ March 8, 1999 Jen Peck stated that the RHA is putting on programs including WWF wrestling, don't know jack, a pajama dance, and a trip to Red Rock. There was an article in the Rebel Yell about some of their programs. They will be electing the 1999-2000 Executive Board soon. SENATOR BINETTI made a motion to move out of the order of the day back to the Elections Board Director Report, seconded by SENATOR FISK. Move into a vote. Motion passes 21-0-0. C. Director Reports: 2. ELECTIONS BOARD DIRECTOR RAMIREZ stated that there has been a of of fine activity. She asked candidates to act responsibly and in a professional manner. She also asked candidates to attend the elections board meetings if there is a posted fine. She also thanked her board members for their hard work. E. Student Athlete Advisory Board Liaison Report: The liaison stated that they have no report. F. Ethnic Student Council Liaison Report: Ann Yu stated that their next meeting is Thursday at 4:30. G. PUBLIC COMMENT Brian Alvarez discussed the fines for candidate Clemens and stated that they are mean and unfair. He stated that he and Aaron have been working closely together and he is appalled by the fines. 6 SENATE MINUTES 29-13/ March 8, 1999 Sunny Martin passed around a proof of the planner for next year. Jen Peck stated that there is an Organizations Roundtable on Thursday being put on by the UNLV LEAD Team. The topic will be communication. IX EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUMMATIONS PRESIDENT PRICE apologized for being late. He stated that VICE PRESIDENT SHAPIRO and DIRECTOR DALEY couldn't make it tonight. There is a Regents Equity Committee Meeting on Thursday. J.C. interviews will be starting next week. He is on a committee to find a new company for student insurance. On the 9th and 10th the Old Spaghetti Factory will be in the Boyd Dining Room. SENATE PRESIDENT KIMBROUGH stated that the Debate Team slept together. 12-Volt Sex is a great band. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN stated that their newsletter will be out this week. The Alpha Delta Pi Sorority is holding a Best Legs Contest. SENATOR BASTUNAS wished Monica Moradkhan a Happy Birthday. She stated that she won't be able to attend the retreat but the caucus was a good thing. SENATOR AYON apologized for being late. He also stated that during Unity Fest we were giving away pizza and it cost the organizations money. He thinks we need to apologize. SENATOR CLEMENS stated that on Saturday Phi Alpha Delta is bringing in 3 attorneys. He or SENATOR FISK will organize the retreat early. He appreciates Brian Alvarez coming in. The Judicial Council has the final decision and he will be appealing. SENATOR GLANCZ had no comment. SENATOR PAUL MORADKHAN stated that he thought the pizza was a good idea. He is looking forward to the retreat. 7 SENATE MINUTES 29-13/ March 8, 1999 SENATOR SCHROEDER stated that she is sad they have to bribe people to vote. SENATOR GREEN stated that 12-Volt Sex rocks. He is looking forward to the retreat. SENATOR WHITAKER stated that he is going to resubmit his Item. SENATOR CLEMENS has done a lot. SENATOR KNAPP wished Monica Moradkhan a happy birthday. SENATOR VENTURA thanked Brian Alvarez for coming. He stated that Joe Lucchese is doing a good job as Assistant Director. He was elected the Vice chair of Ways and Means and he is climbing up the ladder. SENATOR MORGAN stated that she also heard from other people about the pizza. She understands how SENATOR AUGUSTIN feels about the retreat. She also thanked Sunny for coming. SENATOR BRONDER apologized for not making the caucus or the retreat. She agrees the money is excessive and hopes they make the best of it. SENATOR MAIETTA wished Monica Moradkhan a happy birthday. He also thanked the Senate for his card and stated that his surgery was a success. SENATOR CANEPA stated that she was disappointed on the press on the elections in the Rebel Yell. She appreciates Brian Alvarez coming. The Senate approved the Elections Board. She needs to see the Hotel Senators after the meeting. SENATOR ANZALONE stated that he is for the retreat. He works hard and he deserves it. SENATOR FISK tries to do what is best for the Senate. He loves the Elections Board for the next month. SENATOR AUGUSTIN stated that he was glad Brian Alvarez was here. He is glad to hear SENATOR CLEMENS was not disqualified. He wished Sunny a Happy Birthday.
