THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY SENATE PRESIDENT BUD BENNEMAN AT 7:06 P.M. II. ROLL CALL PRESENT ALLISON ANWAR BLOCK BOIXO (Late) CAMPBELL CHELLINO DINOTO ELLIOTT FOX HADDOCK MARTIN McMILLIN PIDA SCHWARTZ VODRAZKA (Late) VOLKERT ABSENT JOHANNSSON (Excused) POBST (Un-excused) III. 14 present; 4 absent; Quorum set at 12. ANNOUNCEMENTS Senator Vodrazka arrived at the Senate Meeting. Student Body President, Joel Kostman, congratulated the new executive board. If anyone wants to sit on a committee to select the classified employee of the year let him know after the meeting. The Board of Regents also wants a student on the Presidents Search Committee. The Rebel Yell Advisory Board accepted the contract. The Elections Board did a good job. He stated that he had a new job and has had scheduling conflicts. Senate President, Bud Benneman, announced that we are working on the minutes, and that KUNV will be making some changes. VI. BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS A. Nominations/Elections for a Ways and Means Committee Vice-Chair was ruled out of order. 1. Senate Committe Reports Senator Volkert, By-Laws Chair, announced that we will have a By-Laws meeting this week. Senator Schwartz said anyone who needs a copy of the rules to let him know. Senator Boixo reported on the Rebel Yell Advisory Board and Campus Safety. She said the Rebel Yell Advisory Board passed the Contract for the $5,000 loan. If you have questions or concerns regarding the Campus Safety, please see her. Senator Martin, Ways and Means chair, said that the committee was doing its' job. The problem seems to be getting the paperwork. His committee has passed or denied all requests that they have received. With regards to the Constitutional Revision Committee, he said that he gave the Elections Board the original copy which the Senate Passed and he felt that the question of his integrity was unfounded, especially by someone who has no position within Student Government. 2. Executive Committee Reports Ed Marshall, Organizations Board Director, felt that he was censured for Ways and Means Bashing. He stated that everything was constructive and needed to be said. Next Wednesday, April 20, 1994, we need people to help with the Blood Drive. O-Board is gearing down for the next Director. SENATE MINUTES 24-16 PAGE THREE BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS CONTINUED No other committee reports were given at this time. 3. Business and Management Reports Suzanne Scott-Weiss reported that KUNV will be naming a new Interim General Manager and that this would be her last Senate Meeting. 4. Public Comment There was no public comment at this time. V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. Constitutional Revision final check for a word change. Motion to approve by Senator Schwartz, seconded by Senator Campbell. The work to be discussed, "collective," was added by the Elections Board for clarification. Discussion concerned the meaning of adding the work "collective." The student body approved is so we should approve it. Motion carries 16-0-0. B. Nomination/Election of Vacant Senate Seat for the College of Hotel Administration. Senator Volkert nominated Jeff Shady. Senator Schwartz moved to close nominations, seconded by Senator Block. Motion carried 16-0-0. C. Nomination/Election of Vacant Senate Seat for the College of Business and Economics. Senator Block moved to close nominations, seconded by Senator Boixo. SENATE MINUTES 24-16 PAGE FOUR UNFINISHED BUSINESS CONTINUED Motion carried 16-0-0. Senator Boixo moved to allow each candidate speak for fa period of three minutes, followed by unlimited question and answer period, followed by a roll call vote, seconded by Senator Schwartz. Eric Fergen addressed the Senate and was asked questions by Senators Martin and Boixo. Joe Laxague addressed the Senate and was asked questions by Senators Martin, Boixo and Schwartz. Motion carries 17-0-0. Meeting was called back to order at 8:01 p.m. No paperwork was found on Mike Parks. Motion by Senator Schwartz to allow each candidate to speak for two minutes followed by unlimited questions and answers, followed by a roll call vote, additionally someone else may speak on behalf of a candidate, seconded by Senator Block. Motion carries 17-0-0. Terry Morrow addressed the Senate and was asked questions by Senator Martin. Senator Elliott spoke on behalf of Mike Parks. He also had to drive his car from the north parking lot to the MSU lot. That took a little bit of time. He asked if he could park in CSUN parking??? He was told that he could if he was willing to pay a $25 ticket. Senator Fergen said he was glad to be here as a Senator. Senator Morrow thanked everyone for voting for her and wants to be a responsible Senator. Senator Anwar congratulated the new Senators and the new Executive Board. Senator Martin had no open discussion. Senator Dinoto congratulated the new Senators. Senator Allison stated that he felt Senator Martin never wants to close discussion on an item. He wanted to point that out. Senator Campbell said that as a member of the Elections Board that she was very happy the election was over. She congratulated the new Senators. She also said she went to school with Terry Morrow and knows that she will do a good job. Senator Block congratulated Senator Boixo and the new Senators. Senator Schwartz congratulated the new Executive Board and the new Senators. Chris Ray, who is going for the Hotel Seat, will do a good job. Senate Committees, according to the new Senate Rules must post 1 week prior to your meeting. Student Body President, Joel Kostman, announced that the pre-school will be on the next agenda, and that Chris Ray should be an ex-officio Senator considering he has been here for the past three weeks. He also stated that he needs board members for the President Search Committee. He thanked the Senate for passing the Thunder item. Justice Rios administered the Oath of Office to Terry Morrow. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. Approval of $6,400 to purchase 800 tickets for the Las Vegas Thunder by Senator Schwartz, seconded by Senator Block. Motion to amend the amount to $5,488 and to change the date to April 16, 1994, seconded by Senator Schwartz. Motion carried 18-0-0. Item A passes after discussion with a vote of 18-0-0. VII. OPEN DISCUSSION Senator Haddock had no comments at this time. Senator Elliott congratulated Senator Boixo and said Mike Parks is a cool guy. He also congratulated the new Senators. Senator Volkert had not comments at this time. Senator Fox congratulated the new Senators and the new Executive Board. She reminded everyone about the Spring Extravaganza on Sunday. Senator Boixo congratulated the new Senators and said she is looking forward to the next year as President. She apologized for being late to the meeting. Senator McMillin congratulated the new Senators and she said that she was almost slate to the meeting because she almost got hit by while crossing Maryland Parkway. Senator Chellino congratulated the new Senators and the new Executive Board. The AIDS quilt was very moving for her. SENATE MINUTES 24-16 PAGE EIGHT OPEN DISCUSSION CONTINUED make the last meeting. He said he went to the AIDS quilt display and was surprised that he saw mostly men. He congratulated Senator Boixo on the election. Senate President Benneman said that Senator Pida's absence was un-excused. He did not censure Ed Marshall, but was trying to be fair to Senator Martin. He also stated that we should be quit when the Oath of Office is being administered. The minutes are in the process of being completed. Congratulation to the new Executive Board and new Senators. VIII. ADJOURNMENT Motion for adjournment by Senator Volkert, seconded by Senator Vodrazka. Motion carries 18-0-0.
