CALL TO ORDER Senate President Polovina called the meeting to order at 4:13 p.m. II. APPROVAL OF SENATE MINUTES 20 - 17 CORRECTIONS: Sen. Colebrook wanted his statement on page 4 changed to read, " the 0-Board policy should be changed to protect not only the basketball tickets, but to protect the system." Sen. Ynigues' first name should be John under Roll Call. Item H of the New Business is out of order, and can be found under page 2. MOTION APPROVED BY VOICE VOTE IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS President Bunin stated that the UNSSA Constitution that is on the agenda will be explained and that he would like to be chosen as the Constitution repre-sentative. Pres. Polovina stated that the memorandum is for the summer Senate Meeting sessions^is important to keep, as she would like to have quorum during the sumner. She had the list of guests for the Banquet called off to receive KSVP's. Michelle Denson — changed colleges. 3. Gary Ogren Motion to have Gary Ogren speak before the Senate before being appointed by unanimous acclamation-by Sen. Benneman Amendment to the motion to have speech last for total of two minutes with a question and answer session of up to one minute by Sen. Tabola. SENATOR ROSENBERG LEFI THE ROOM AT THIS TIME. SEN. FITZPATRICK LEFT THE MEETING. MOTION CARRIED BY VOICE VOTE. Chief Justice Wall swore in Gary Ogren as the new Math and Science Senate Seat VIII. NEW BUSINESS A. APPROVAL OF EXECUTIVE BOARD NOMINATIONS Motion to Approve by Sen. Smith SENATOit ROS&NIBERG RETURNED TO THE MEETING. SEN. KERSHAW LEFT AT THIS TIME. B. MOTION TO APPROPRIATE THE MONEY FROM BY-LAW 28 ( the Nevada Student Leadership Conference ) AND ENCUMBER IT FOR THE USSA CONFERENCE BY PRES. BUNIN Discussion and questions by Sen. Tabola, Sen. Field, Sen. Ynigues, Sen. Pratt, Sen. Spiller, Sen. Gonzalez, Sen. Colebrook, and Pres. Polovina. MDTION PASSED BY VOICE VOTE. X. OPEN DISCUSSION Sen. Kershaw had no comments. Sen. Ogren had no comments. Sen. Elliott had no comments. Sen. Tabola had no comments. Sen. Benneman stated that he was getting alot of input concerning the traffic barricades and the smoking situation. He stated that Sen. Bunin is the winner of the MCFLY AWARD. Sen. Pratt congratulated Sen. Ogren, and thanked Sen. Rosenberg for explaining about the Leadership Conference. He stated that he is not going to graduate as the Engineering Department is being difficult. Sen. Kelley congratulated Sen. Ogren and wished everyone luck on their finals. Sen. Miller congratulated Sen. Ogren. Sen. Gonzalez welcomed Sen. Ogren and stated that it was a good idea to switch to the USSA Conference. Sen. Bunin congratulated Sen. Ogren and showed everyone his new extendy/collapsible pen. Sen. Bunin congratulated Sen. Ogren, and stated that he is resigning from the Senate as he is graduating. He wished everyone goodluck next year. Sen. Ynigues congratulated Sen. Ogren, and said goodbye to Sen. Spiller. He stated that Barry Sobel was bad, 1st David Bowie and now Barry, and that Ted Carpenter was great. Sen. Field congratulated Sen. Ogren. Sen. Ramsey congratulated Sen. Ogren and said that she is looking for-ward to the Banquet. Sen. Colebrook stated that the Hotel Assoc. is having a Roast on April 27, and that tickets are $25 each. He stated that he is looking forward to the Banquet, and congratulated Sen. Ogren. He said goodbye to Sen. Spiller. Sen. Rosenberg congratulated Sen. Ogren. Sen. Bennett congratulated Sen. Ogren, and stated that the invitations for the Banquet were well done. He stated that Sunday is Earth Day, and that he has gotten sponsors for the fundraiser hh spoke about last week. FRCM THE GALLERY: Phil Daquino asked about the Teacher's Excellence Award and its winner. Chief Justice Wall congratulated Sen. Ogren and said goodbye to Sen. Spiller. He stated that he hasn't been approached to invalidate the election, and that all the complaints should be taken with a grain of salt. SENATE M I N U T E S 20 - 18 APRIL 19, 1990 4 IX. OPEN DISCUSSION, CONTINUED. FROM THE EXEUCIIVES: Senate President Pro Tempore Smith cngratulated Sen. Ogren, and stated that the OSI has been run poorly this semester, and that all positions of Director are open. She stated that Pres. Polovina has done great work on the Banquet, and that she is resigning from the Pres. Pro Tem posistion. She stated that she felt that she wasn't doing her best, and felt that scmeone else would be better. Sen. Tabola congratulated MLke Kennedy and Mario Menez on their well prepared reports. He also commented on Sen. Ramsey's t-shirt. Pres. Bunin stated that he hoped everyone had a good Spring Break, and congratulated Sen. Ogren. He told Sen. Spiller that he thought that he had done a noble thing in resigning, and that he was a very good senator. He asked to be chosen as the UNSSA. Constitution representa-tive, and then stated that as far as Barry Sobel is concerned, we can't afford Bill Cosby. He stated that Teddy Carpenter saved the day, and then went on to explain about the parking barricade, which he felt is a bad idea. He went on to state that By-Law 28 should be repealed, as there is no reason keep a Conference on the By-Laws. Pres. Polovina thanked the Senate for the opportunity to speak on the Conference and the Academic Standards. She congratulated Sen. Ogren, and thanked Sen. Spiller for his hard work, stated that he had been an active senator, and it would be hard to find a suitable replacement. She explained the reasons for holding the Nevada Leadership Conference, stating that the NSLC has potential. She thanked Sen. Smith, stating that she has done a good job, and that she has been too humble, and thanked her for her service. She mentioned that the Banquet is Wednesday, at 7 p.m. at the Golden Nugget, and that Warren is going to be the DJ. She explained that she needs the RSVP's by Monday morning, and asked everyone to try and attend. X. ADJOUKNMENT Senate President Polovina adjourned the meeting at 6:04 p.m. GINA B. POLOVINA.
