ANNOUNCEMENTS Vice President Pro Tempore Harrington announced that he will soon be introducing a budget for the Roundtable that he has planned -for Jan. 8. «*J j . : Senate President Pro Tempore Smith announced that the following members need to see him after the Senate Meeting: UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS/4505 MARYLAND PARKWAY/LAS VEGAS, NV 89154/(702) 739-3477 Senate Minutes 17-33 Page 2 IV. ANNOUNCEMENTS -Continued- Senator Chastain, Senator Giff, Senator Goldstein, Senator Harrington, Senator Bosma, Senator Miller, Senator Spicer, and Senator L a v a m a . These Senators need to speak to h ; im about time schedules for speaking in front of a class. Updated the membership for the committees and boards, there is a conflict in the Radio Board, since eight members were appointed but there is only seven seats. He would also like a report from the Radio Board Chairman about the status of the members who are on the board. CSUN Vice President Gentile announced that on September 30th there will be the Blood Drive. The times will be 11:00am to 3:00pm. She also passed around a sign up sheet for people to donate blood for the event. ~~ Senate President Evenson announced that there will be a Nicaragua Challenge or Opportunity, on October 5, at 7:30pm in Wright Hall, Room 103. He read Dr. Cloudy thank you letter to the Senate for the Debate Club funding, j |PSI -CHI HONOR SOCIETY was recognised as -a 'CSUN ' "'Organization. • • - % . 1 - ; • ; v ;-J : * -- -v- ' Senate President Evenson mentioned that he was in an Academic Standards Meeting today, in which Senate Resolution 17-3 was approved for Dead Week unanimously. The next yjr step is for the Faculty Senate to approve it. He also .attended President Maxson's Academic Advising meeting. President Maxs'on is also in need for someone who is either an Art Major or interested in art to be on NICA. He mentioned that this committee meets once a ni sBsn^dO ' .n-ol - w CSUN President Hendrick asked if there were any more organizations that needed to be recognized. On Wednesday September 30th there will be an Organizations Board meeting that all organizations must be at. He also mentioned that Intramurals is the best he has ever seen it. He also mentioned that Mike Popp was doing a good job. He was chosen to be on the State Tax Committee by Hark Dawson. He is hoping that the Senate Handbook will be out by November 1. This handbook is being constructed by Karen Hare, OPI Director and Senate President Evenson. He asked the body if the knew what the UNLV Foundation and it's function was. (A reasonable number raised hands). In a brief description, CSUN President Hendrick describe it as being a private fundraiser. He also mentioned that on October 17 between 12 noon the university was going to have a Day on the Green. This function is to make the community aware of the university. V. BOARD/AND COMMITTEE REPORTS sure i - Entertainment and Programming thanked the Senators for there help on the Family Fare. Ric Jimenez especially thanked Senator Smith for his help. Ric also expressed his feeling toward the two items on the agenda which Entertainment and Programming will be co-sponsoring with. He felt that this was an educational experience and good for the university. He also mentioned that he needed help with Homecoming. He also said that this would probaly be the only sub-committee that they would have. KUNV mentioned that a new radio station has come on the ^X air and that KUNV has decided to play less pop jazz and J pick up more on the jazz. He said that they would be altering the different types of music. He also mentioned that KUNV will be having two hour shifts so that more students can be on the air. He also mentioned that he was having some problem with the commission checks. CSUN President Hendrick mentioned to KUNV that he was impressed with the meeting that KUNV had the other day. The turn out was very good. Senate Minutes 17-33 Page 4 Appropriations Board announced that $850.00 came out of the CSUN General account, $750.00 out of the Student Services account, and $400.00 out of the Organizations . account for the Debate Team. There will be a meeting on September 28th in room 203 at 3pm for the Appropriations Board. Publications Board announced that on Tuesday September 29th at 4:00pm in the Oasis room there will be a meeting discussing the Video Yearbook. She also submitted the comments that the Publications Board made from the last meeting about the issue concerning the Ad Manager's resignation letter. (See Attached copy). CSUN President Hendrick mentioned that he never felt that the charges against Kurt Hildebrand would cause him to get fired, but he added that he would like to make sure that Romney Smith was not up at the Yellin' Rebel. ' •'•' 3. Kurt Hilderbrand stated that no commission will be paid on the ads that were sold. rlT A. Palma Wesley will receive the full amount of \ commission due to her. |t>. The committee regrets the conflict between the ad manager and the editor. We understand they view the job differently and cannot coexist in a working environment. 6. This has raised some questions about the ad manager and the editors relationship. In the future we hope to avoid any futher complica-tions. ; 7. The job descriptions we now have should cir-cumvent any further complications. Motion fails with three in favor (Goldstein, Mangual, L a v a m a ) , opposed (Harrington, Baggett, Sanchez, Giff, Cunningham, Carlson, McGinty, Miller, and one abstention (Smith.) There was discussion. Kurt Hildebrand addressed the Senate. There was discussion. Motion to move this item of business of the 42 credit fee waiver to the Publications Board, Senator Goldstein. Seconded by Senator McGinty. ~ . There was discussion. Senator Smith mentioned that the for a 42 credit fee waiver and $100 stipend was already approved before, and that the only difference in this situation was the person in the job, not the position. There was discussion. This motion was declared out of order since the Senate had approved this motion before. Unfinished Business A. Approval of Macintosh SE Hard Disk, M-5083 CPU Apple Keyboard and Image Writer 2, M-2577, with ^ Macintosh Cable for $2745.50 for KUNV. (Rob Rosenthal). Motion by Senator Smith to remove the motion from the table. Seconded by Senator Carlson. There were no objections. There was discussion. Motion to amend the main motion to require a written document that the capital account of KUNV and the Yellin 1 Rebel will be only used for emergency for the next 3 years and CSUN has second priority on the machine above KUNV's day to day operations and below KUNV's and the Yellin' Rebel's graphic needs, by CSUN President Hendrick. CSUN President mentioned that the Publications Board chairman showed him a paper which stated that the Advertising Manager of the Yellin' Rebel was not able to.receive :a. . stipend. •.: • .: Vice President Gentile announced that KUNV had a proposal two more stipends and two more fee waivers to be given to the Community Affairs Director and the Development Director. (See Attached Stipend Proposal). CSUN President Hendrick nominated Brett McGinty to . the Academic Advising Seat.
