SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

The county seat of Clark county, with a population of 4000 people, situated midway between Salt Lake City, Utah, and Los Angeles, California, on the Union Pacific Railroad. The Railroad chose this spot for its division point shops, general storehouse, and other departments of activity because of the ample water supply. The Railroad chose this spot for its division point shops, general storehouse and other departments of activity because of this ample water supply. The Railroad payroll amounts to more than $200,000 per month, and the bank deposits are between $900,000 and $1,000,000.
The climate is similar to that of Southern California and products such as apples, pears, peaches, apricots pomegranates, grapes of all varieties, almonds and most other nuts are raised and do well in this section. Among the field crops, alfalfa- seven cuttings the year at an average of a ton per cutting-is of a splendid quality.
There are today approximately 100 artesian wells, pouring out their water whenever allowed to, without expense for pumping or maintenance. There are probably about the same number of farms ranging in size from 10 to 160 acres or more, which are producing crops and supporting families. Some of these farms, created out of a seemingly barren soil have become valuable, selling for $300 per acre
Other interests of the country add to our resources. Among these may be mentioned the productive agricultural valleys of the Moapa and the Virgin Rivers. The U.S. Gypsum Company employs about 100 men at its works at Arden. The White Star Plaster Company, near Moapa, is employing about 50 men, and the Nevada Lime and Rock Company at Sloan is employing about a hundred men. Goodsprings, with its great Yellow Pine Mine (with a record of over $3,000,000 in dividends) and other mines producing zinc, lead, silver, copper, gold, platinum, vadim and other metals, is an important element in the business life of Las Vegas.
The site of the proposed Boulder Canyon Dam is in Clark county about 30 miles east of Las Vegas. The U.S. Reclamation Services has, for several years, been making surveys and investigations relative to use this site for one of the greatest water storage and power development enterprises in the world. Investigation has so far progressed that all questions as to its feasibility are settled beyond question. It is now accepted as a fact that either by the Government, by direct appropriation by Congress, or through an association of public and private interests, this work will be undertaken; actual construction shall be completed and approved. This great work will require an expenditure for building the dam, constructing power estimated at between $50,000,000 and $100,000,000.
Clark county and Las Vegas present an opportunity for home, business and development with lands not valued too high. Just a few doors north of this cafe, is located the Chamber of Commerce which will gladly furnish any information concerning Las Vegas and surrounding country.
Las Vegas welcomes you!
