MACMASTER & MACMASTER MINING STOCK BROKERS P.O. BOX 1063 GOLDFIELD, NEV. Nov. 17, 1906 Dear Mother:- There is considerable gloom over this office tonight. Earley this morning the Goldfield Hotel burned. There was a man from Los Angeles (A.H. Heber) out here and I became very well acquainted with him. His son is a young man with a family here. The young Heber Had a desk in our office. His desk was next to mine. I got very well acquainted with both of them. The old man perished in the Fire this morning. He was about 54 years old. The firemen were unable to get the people out that were burned for a couple of hours after the fire. They have only found two bodies up to tonight and one of these they think is Heber. It is impossible to identify them as both of them were burned to a crisp and nothing but the trunk of the bodies were saved. They have only been able to identify them by the size. The young man was certainly distracted this morning. They thought for a while that the Old man was out alright. There were several injured and after searching among the injured all forenoon and trying to locate him they gave him up for lost. I wrote telegrams for the young Heber. He has two sisters in Wellesley College in Mass. One sister in New York city and one in Denver. There is an aunt or sister one in Jersey City, N.J. All the rest of the family live at Los Angeles. The Old Gent. was very wealthy. Grandpa Fenwick will probably remember that we were talking last summer about a project that was going on in California, by damming the Colorado River and getting water for irrigation. This man, A. H. Heber, was at the head of this company and he told me all about the whole outfit. They have made a wonderful success of the undertaking. I will send you one of his pamplets that will tell pretty well about the undertaking. I am also sending you papers that will tell
