Abstract

The Timothy Peters Postcard Collection consists of postcards dating from 1905 to 1992. The postcards feature playing cards and card games. There are advertisements, illustrations, quotes, and scenes from games that all contain playing cards in some way.

Scope and Contents Note

The Timothy Peters Postcard Collection consists of postcards dating from 1905 to 1992. The postcards feature playing cards and card games. There are advertisements, illustrations, quotes, and scenes from games that all contain playing cards in some way. The advertisements feature items such as liquor and cigars, as well as casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada and Atlantic City, New Jersey. There are scenes of men gambling at poker tables. Other postcards depict different card suits and poker hands and their meanings. Also included are postcards with illustrations containing gambling jokes and animals playing cards.
